What is the difference between Type 11, Type 21 and Type 22 radiators, and which should you choose for your room?

Type 11 is a single panel radiator and suits smaller rooms or where you want a low-profile look, such as a cloakroom or small bedroom. Type 21 has two panels with a single convector, so it gives noticeably more heat without being too deep, ideal for standard-sized bedrooms or bathrooms. Type 22 has two panels and two convectors, giving the highest output and working well in larger living rooms or cold exterior walls. If you have limited depth to spare, Type 11 is slim; if you need maximum heat from a compact width, a Type 22 in a taller height like 1600 mm is a good match.

How do I decide the right radiator size and BTU output for my room?

Look at the radiator's physical size and its BTU rating together, because height, width and panel type all affect output; sizes here range from compact widths like 280 mm up to 1600 mm, and heights from 300 mm to 2000 mm, while BTU outputs span roughly 700 to over 11,000. A taller, deeper model such as a 600 x 1600 mm Type 22 will produce much more heat than a 500 x 1300 mm Type 11, so match larger rooms with larger dimensions and higher BTU figures. If you're unsure, pick a radiator with a higher BTU within the available sizes so it can cope with colder days without looking too bulky in the space.

I have a narrow hallway and a bay-window living room. Are there slim tall and wide low radiators available?

Yes, the range includes tall slim heights up to 2000 mm and narrow widths from around 280 mm, which suit hallways and stairwells, and wider, lower options such as 900 or 1000 mm widths at 400–600 mm heights that work well under bay windows. For a hallway you might choose a 300–600 mm wide by 1600–2000 mm high radiator to save floor space while keeping warmth. For a bay window position, a low wide radiator in a 900–1200 mm width and 400–600 mm height will sit neatly beneath the sill and spread heat across the room.

Should you buy a heated towel radiator or a panel radiator for your bathroom?

If you want warm, dry towels and some heat, a heated towel rail is ideal and adds a bathroom feature. For primary heating in a cold bathroom you'll get more output from a compact panel radiator, especially the Type 21 or 22 options. A practical approach is to fit a heated towel rail for towel warming and a small panel radiator if the bathroom needs stronger heating on colder days.
