How can you be sure a 1600mm bath will fit your bathroom layout?

Measure the available wall-to-wall length and allow a few millimetres clearance for panels or trims; a standard bath is 1700mm, so a 1600mm bath is designed for tighter spaces. Many 1600mm baths come in common widths such as 700mm, 750mm or larger options like 855mm for L-shaped shower baths, so check the width as well as the length. If you plan to sit the bath in an alcove you'll usually need a side panel, while corner installs need side and end panels.

What's the practical difference between single-ended, double-ended, slipper and freestanding 1600mm baths for everyday use?

Single-ended baths (many at 1600 x 700mm) have the taps and waste at one end, which suits a shower over-bath or a tight pipe run. Double-ended baths are symmetrical so two people can sit comfortably or you can swap ends for different tap layouts. Slipper and freestanding styles, such as the Sanctura Putney or Moment slipper (around 1590–1650mm), give you a deeper, more luxurious soak and become a focal point in modern bathrooms. Freestanding options need more surrounding space but offer a striking look; straight baths and L/P-shaped shower baths maximise functionality in smaller rooms.

Is acrylic or steel better for a 1600mm bath?

Acrylic (the majority of the range) is lightweight, warm to the touch and mouldable into shapes like L-shaped or slipper baths, making it ideal if you want features such as integrated shower platforms or curved fronts. Steel baths (fewer models, for example the Kaldewei 1600 x 700mm with anti-slip and two tap holes) are very hard-wearing, have a slim profile and resist scratching and staining. If you value premium durability and a firmer feel underfoot choose steel; if you need a wider selection of shapes, finishes and lower cost choose acrylic.

Can you have a full shower over a 1600mm bath, and what should you look for?

Yes. L-shaped and P-shaped 1600mm shower baths (commonly 1600 x 855mm) are specifically shaped to give a larger showering area at one end while keeping the overall length compact. Look for bundles that include a shower screen or screen with rail, as several Ceramica L-shaped options are offered with screens and panels for a neat finish. If you prefer a straight bath with a shower, choose a model that's screen-compatible and allow for the width you need to avoid splashing.

Do you need panels or screens with a 1600mm bath, and what are the typical options?

If your bath sits in an alcove you will normally fit a side panel for the long side; corner installations require a side and end panel set. Many straight baths are sold with no panels, but there are bundles that include front and end panels plus a shower screen for L-shaped shower baths. Freestanding and some slipper baths don't need panels, and screens are offered if you want an integrated shower solution.
