Manual Radiator Valves

Manual valves for radiators are not the cleverest pieces of kit but they serve their purpose faultlessly. Radiator valves are designed to allow you to adjust the temperature of your radiators but specifically with manual radiator valves (as the name suggests), you can control the heat by manually twisting the heads on the valve. This in turn allows more or less hot water to circulate into the radiator, ensuring the heating in your room makes you nice and toasty. Our range consists of a number of different styles, some of which are finished in a gorgeous polished chrome of designer anthracite. They are the budget option but don’t let that put you off. How do I know whether to buy an angled, straight or corner valve for my radiator?

Match the valve to how your pipes reach the radiator. Choose angled if the radiator is side inlet with pipework coming from below, or if you have a bottom inlet with pipework coming from the wall. Choose straight for a side inlet with pipework running along the wall, or for a bottom inlet where the pipe comes up from the floor. Corner valves are for side inlet radiators with pipework coming from the wall or bottom inlets with pipework running along the wall.

Should I buy a manual valve or a thermostatic one?

Manual valves are the straightforward, budget-friendly option, you twist the head to let more or less hot water into the radiator, and most of the range here is manual. Thermostatic valves give automatic temperature control but are limited in this range. If you want simple, reliable control in rooms you don't use constantly, a manual valve from DuraTherm or Solaro will be fine; choose a thermostatic valve where you need consistent room temperature without adjusting it often.

What connection size should I choose?

The vast majority of valves in this range use a 15mm connection, which is the common size for UK domestic radiators. There are a few 1/2 inch and 10mm options, so check your existing valve or pipe diameter before ordering. most Solaro and DuraTherm valves included in our range are 15mm, so if your current pipes are standard domestic 15mm, those will fit.

Will the valve finish and style match my radiator and bathroom décor?

Yes, there are modern and traditional styles and many finishes to match your radiator, from polished chrome and satin nickel to matt anthracite, matt black, gloss white and brushed brass. If you have a contemporary towel radiator, a minimalist chrome or anthracite valve from Solaro works well; for a period-style radiator, a traditional cross head in chrome or brass complements the look. Some ranges include sleeves and matching lockshields so you get a coordinated finish.

Are lockshield valves included or do I need to buy them separately?

Some valve packs include a lockshield but many do not, the stock filter shows nine products in our range with lockshields included and 44 without. Where included, you'll sometimes get a matching cap, a white cap lockshield from Towelrads. If you want both the visible control and the balancing lockshield to match, check the product description for "valves & sleeves" or "valve & lockshield" before you buy.
