Straight Radiator Valves

If the pipework to your radiator is coming directly out of the floor (as opposed to out of the wall at right angles to the radiator) then these are the valves that you need. They directly connect the vertical pipe to the vertical radiator inlet without any bends to restrict the water flow. They’re finished in polished chrome, matte black or classic white to enable you to choose which suits your new radiator the best.

How can you tell if you need straight radiator valves rather than angled ones?

If your heating pipe comes vertically up from the floor into the radiator inlet, you need straight valves because they connect a vertical pipe directly to a vertical inlet without bends. Angled valves are for pipework coming out of the wall at right angles. A quick check is to look under the radiator: if the copper or plastic pipe rises straight up into the valve, a straight valve is the correct fit.

What connection size should you order for your radiator?

Most straight valves on the page use 15mm connections, so if your radiator inlet measures 15mm you should order that size. There are a few 10mm and 1/2 inch options too, so measure the tail of your existing valve or the radiator inlet before buying. a modern panel radiator will almost always be 15mm, while older or designer radiators can occasionally use different sizes.

Should you choose a thermostatic or a manual straight valve?

Thermostatic valves let you control the room temperature automatically and are ideal if you want precise comfort and energy savings, while manual valves are cheaper and fine if you always run a steady setting or control temperature centrally. Thermostatic packs are widely available in finishes like chrome and black, so you can get both function and style. If you want a bathroom that stays at a consistent cosy temperature, a thermostatic valve is usually the better option.

Which finish will suit your bathroom or kitchen decor best?

There is a wide choice: polished chrome, matt black, matt anthracite, brushed brass, white, grey and nickel are all offered, with modern styles predominating and a smaller selection of traditional cross head valves. matt black or anthracite works beautifully with industrial or monochrome bathrooms, brushed brass adds warmth to a hotel-style design, and white lets the valve blend into a painted radiator. Look for designer packs from Solaro or DuraTherm if you want a coordinated, high-end look.

Do you need a lockshield or a twin inlet valve, and how do you find them?

Many packs include a lockshield which you'll want if you need to balance the system; other products in our range sell the TRV and lockshield separately. Twin inlet straight valves are available for radiators with two bottom connections, such as the Solaro 15mm twin inlet thermostatic valve, so match the valve configuration to your radiator's inlet arrangement. If your radiator has a single inlet on one side, a standard single straight valve will be the correct choice.
