Why should you order a Starline SPC vinyl sample before buying a full floor?

A sample lets you check colour, shade, texture and pattern in your actual room lighting so you avoid an expensive mismatch. Starline samples are large enough to be useful (common sizes shown are 1.49m², 1.76m², 2.24m² and XL 2.51m²) and cost just the current product price each, so you can compare several options side by side. a 1.76m² Portland Beech sample will show you how a light oak plank reads against your kitchen cabinets.

How do I decide between mosaic, plank or herringbone styles?

Look at the sample style to judge the overall effect, mosaics like Valetta and Corfu show small repeated patterns, planks such as Portland or Buffalo give a long linear look, and herringbone options (Wichita, Concord, Lexington) create a textured, traditional pattern. Herringbone samples are often 1.56m² so you can see the repeat; if your bathroom is small you might prefer a plank to avoid a busy feel, whereas herringbone can add character to a larger hallway. Match the pattern to the room size and the mood you want: calm and contemporary or warm and intricate.

Will a sample reliably show how a grey or brown tone will look in my home?

Yes, the range includes clear colour groups (grey, brown and white) and individual names like Palma Stone Grey, Buffalo Maple and Porto White Veined to show different undertones and veining. Larger samples (up to 2.51m²) help reveal subtle gradients and repeats that small swatches cannot; place the sample near your walls and view it at different times of day to see how natural and artificial light affect the tone. That way you'll know whether a cool grey will sit well with your paint and fittings or if a warmer brown oak will be more flattering.

How do the sample dimensions relate to the final tile or plank sizes?

The product range includes planks and tiles with longest sides up to 1220mm and widths from about 125mm to 457mm, so samples let you visualise both long planks and small-format pieces. a 1220mm by 305mm plank will give a very linear, contemporary feel, whereas tiles with a shortest side of 125mm tend to be used for mosaic or narrow-board effects. Ordering an appropriately sized sample helps you assess how the pattern scale will read across your room.

How many different samples should you order to make a confident choice?

Most people order two to four samples: one of the colour family you favour, a darker or lighter alternative, and a different pattern (a plank and a herringbone) to compare scale. Because samples are inexpensive and in stock, you can test combinations in the same room, try a soft grey Palma Stone and a warm Buffalo Maple next to your doorway and see which complements your fixtures best.
