Measure the available width and door swing and match it to the product sizes shown, small cloakrooms suit 400–600mm freestanding units, a standard family bathroom benefits from an 800mm unit, and if you want two sinks look at the 1540mm double vanity. Also consider corner options like the 580mm Oxford corner vanity if you have an awkward footprint. Finally, leave at least 65–100mm either side of the basin for taps and to avoid a cramped feel.

Freestanding vanity units such as the Park Lane Winchester or Hudson Reed Bexley combine a basin with built-in storage and sit on the floor, giving a traditional, furniture-style look. Wall-hung basins (the Eastlake 465mm) free up floor space and suit minimalist or smaller bathrooms. Full pedestals (Eastlake 560mm) offer a classic appearance with the basin supported by a column, while countertop basins like the BC Designs copper 530 x 345mm create a statement on a worktop but need surface space. Each type balances storage, visual style and the amount of visible floor.

For a classic traditional look, Pure White or Cool Grey from the Hudson Reed Bexley range keeps the scheme calm and timeless, while Winchester Blue, Fern Green or Indigo Blue add period character and warmth. Brass handles pair beautifully with deep colours to enhance a vintage feel, whereas black handles give a stronger, more contemporary contrast. You'll find 1 tap hole basins designed for single-lever mixer taps and 2 tap hole variants that accept traditional separate hot and cold pillar taps, such as the Eastlake 560mm 2 tap hole pedestal. Choose a 1-hole if you prefer the ease of a mixer tap and modern convenience, or a 2-hole if you want an authentic traditional feel with separate taps. If you opt for a countertop basin like the BC Designs copper, check whether the basin needs a deck-mounted tap or a wall-mounted spout.
