How do I pick the right wattage for my towel radiator?

Match the element wattage to the radiator size and how much heat you need: smaller rails often use 150–300W, medium bathroom rails 300–600W, and larger or sole‑heat rails 1000W. The range on offer includes 150W, 200W, 300W, 400W, 600W and 1000W models, so you can step up or down as needed. a small cloakroom rail will be fine with a 150–300W element, while a family bathroom with a larger rail will benefit from a 600W or 1000W unit. If the radiator will be a top‑up to central heating, you can typically choose a lower wattage than if it must heat the room alone.

What's the difference between thermostatic, timed and Wi‑Fi elements and which should I choose?

Thermostatic elements let you set and hold a target temperature for consistent warmth, timed elements allow simple on/off scheduling, and Wi‑Fi models give app control and integration with smart home systems. If you want a hands‑off steady towel rail, thermostatic (priced around the current product price) is ideal; if you only need to run the rail at set periods, a timed unit works well; and if remote control and home automation matter, choose a Wi‑Fi element (included in our range near the current product price). Each type is available across common power ratings, so pick the control style and the wattage that suits your rail.

Do the different finishes affect performance, and how do I choose a finish?

Finish is cosmetic rather than functional; chrome, white, black and anthracite options are offered so you can match your radiator and room style without compromising heat output. chrome suits classic polished rails, while anthracite or black creates a modern, bold look on contemporary fittings. Functionally, a chrome 600W element will heat the same as a white 600W element, so choose the finish based on appearance and how it complements your bathroom or kitchen.

What is a 43D element and when would I need one?

The 43D elements are angled configurations (available in 200W and 400W in our range) designed for radiators that need an off‑axis connection or where a straight element won't fit neatly. You'd choose a 43D when the radiator's valve or mounting position prevents a straight plug‑in element sitting flush. If your radiator inlet is offset or tucked behind fittings, an angled 43D makes installation neater and avoids awkward pipework runs.

Will these smart elements work with my existing home automation system?

Many of the Towelrads Smart Heating Elements are compatible with intelligent home systems and external timers, and the Wi‑Fi models specifically offer app control for full remote access. If you want integration, opt for the Wi‑Fi unit and confirm your platform's compatibility, otherwise thermostatic or timed models will still work with basic external timers. For practical use, you could schedule a timed element to warm towels before you wake, or use a Wi‑Fi element to turn the rail on from your phone when you're on your way home.
