Match wattage to the size of your rail and how quickly you want it to warm; smaller rails or cloakrooms typically do well with 150W, standard bathroom rails often suit 250–300W, larger ladder rails or family bathrooms benefit from 400W, and very large rails or fast heat-up needs call for 600W. If you have a compact ensuite, a 150W thermostatic element will keep towels warm without wasting energy; for a tall 1.6 m ladder rail in a family bathroom, step up to 600W.

Thermostatic elements maintain a set temperature automatically, so they’re energy-efficient and good for everyday use; manual elements simply switch the element on or off and are usually cheaper; digital controllers give precise set‑up and programming and are useful if you want schedules or fine control. If you want simplicity and savings, a thermostatic element (available in 150W–600W) is often the best compromise; choose a digital controller if you want timers and exact temperature control.

These elements are specifically designed for DuraTherm heated towel rails and many are compatible with a wide range of rail dimensions, but compatibility varies by model, so check the individual product description for the exact fit. the Atlantis Chrome 150W thermostatic element is made for the Atlantis range; if your rail is a different make or model, look for compatibility notes or the same rail family before you buy.

Pick a finish to match or complement your rail and other bathroom fittings, chrome is classic and widely in stock, black or anthracite suit a contemporary look, white blends quietly into painted radiators, and brass adds a warm, traditional touch. Note that while many chrome, black and white elements are shown as in stock, several anthracite and brass items are included in our range with a four‑week lead time, so allow extra time if you want those colours.

A dual fuel element lets you use your central heating system to warm the rail in winter and switch to mains electricity in summer, so you avoid firing up the whole boiler just for towels. Practically, you’d leave the rail on the hot‑water circuit when the central heating is running, then switch to the electric element, using a 300W thermostatic element for a few hours in summer to warm towels without heating the house, which keeps running costs lower.
