DuraTherm Heating Elements

If you’re looking to add a more energy-efficient heating system to your home but you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg getting it, look no further than our collection of heating elements. Our range of DuraTherm heating elements are designed to convert our DuraTherm heated towel rails into dual fuel, meaning these powerful heating elements can allow the rail to heat your towels using your normal water system in the winter, but then use the mains electricity in the summer. They really are the best of both worlds!

Specifically designed to work with our range of Duratherm heated towel rails, these small but mighty dual fuel heating elements are a truly ingenious invention. But what exactly is a heating element and how can it help you save energy in your home? A heating element is an accessory used to convert electric energy into heat. That means this clever device will enable you to convert your central heating towel rail to an electrically controlled one, enabling you to use your heated towel rail even when your central heating is turned off, particularly during the summer months! They really are that clever!

Our range of DuraTherm dual fuel heating elements are incredibly easy to install, with many of our products being compatible with a wide range of heated towel rail dimensions for added convenience. These heated element kits offer a practical and incredibly convenient solution to an extremely common problem around the house. And let’s face it, it is far cheaper to install one of these heating elements than scrapping your existing heated towel rail altogether and buying a whole new unit! For more detailed information on each of these products, be sure to fully read the product descriptions.

Which heating element wattage do I need for my towel rail and bathroom size?

Match wattage to the size of your rail and how quickly you want it to warm; smaller rails or cloakrooms typically do well with 150W, standard bathroom rails often suit 250–300W, larger ladder rails or family bathrooms benefit from 400W, and very large rails or fast heat-up needs call for 600W. If you have a compact ensuite, a 150W thermostatic element will keep towels warm without wasting energy; for a tall 1.6 m ladder rail in a family bathroom, step up to 600W.

What's the difference between thermostatic, manual and digital elements and which should you choose?

Thermostatic elements maintain a set temperature automatically, so they’re energy-efficient and good for everyday use; manual elements simply switch the element on or off and are usually cheaper; digital controllers give precise set‑up and programming and are useful if you want schedules or fine control. If you want simplicity and savings, a thermostatic element (available in 150W–600W) is often the best compromise; choose a digital controller if you want timers and exact temperature control.

Will a DuraTherm heating element fit my existing heated towel rail?

These elements are specifically designed for DuraTherm heated towel rails and many are compatible with a wide range of rail dimensions, but compatibility varies by model, so check the individual product description for the exact fit. the Atlantis Chrome 150W thermostatic element is made for the Atlantis range; if your rail is a different make or model, look for compatibility notes or the same rail family before you buy.

Which finish should you pick and are any colours slower to obtain?

Pick a finish to match or complement your rail and other bathroom fittings, chrome is classic and widely in stock, black or anthracite suit a contemporary look, white blends quietly into painted radiators, and brass adds a warm, traditional touch. Note that while many chrome, black and white elements are shown as in stock, several anthracite and brass items are included in our range with a four‑week lead time, so allow extra time if you want those colours.

How does a dual fuel element save energy and work through the seasons?

A dual fuel element lets you use your central heating system to warm the rail in winter and switch to mains electricity in summer, so you avoid firing up the whole boiler just for towels. Practically, you’d leave the rail on the hot‑water circuit when the central heating is running, then switch to the electric element, using a 300W thermostatic element for a few hours in summer to warm towels without heating the house, which keeps running costs lower.
