How do I decide between a single-impeller and a twin-impeller shower pump?

A twin-impeller pump boosts both hot and cold supplies, so it gives a stronger, balanced flow to mixer showers and thermostatic valves; many models in our range are twin for that reason. A single-impeller pump only boosts one feed (hot or cold) and is suitable if only one supply needs improving, for example an electric shower or a pipework layout where only the hot feed is weak. If you want an even, powerful mixer shower, a twin impeller is usually the safer choice.

What pump output (bar) should I pick for the shower I want?

Our range shows common outputs from 1.5 up to 4.5 bar; 1.5 bar models give a modest, economical boost while 2.0–2.6 bar is the most popular range for everyday mixer showers. If you want a very strong, power-shower feel or multiple outlets, look at 3.0 bar and above, such as the Stuart Turner Monsoon 3.0 or Salamander 3.0 models. Match the bar rating to how forceful you want the spray and the shower valve you have.

What is the difference between Positive Head, Negative Head and Universal pumps and which should you pick?

Positive head models are the most common and suit standard gravity and mains situations where the incoming cold feed has some pressure; negative head models are rare and are designed for tricky loft-tank or high-level outlet arrangements where the pump must lift the supply. Universal pumps will work in either situation, so they are the easiest option if you are not certain about your feed conditions. If you want flexibility without guessing, a universal model removes the risk of a wrong fit.

Should you choose a plastic or a brass-constructed pump?

Both materials are well represented here so you can match budget and longevity. Brass pumps are generally heavier and more robust for long-term use, especially in harder water, whereas plastic models tend to be lighter and more affordable and still perform well for many homes. For a busy family bathroom you may prefer brass for durability, while a guest shower or budget refit can work very well with a quality plastic pump.

Which pump technology is best for quiet, reliable daily use, regenerative, centrifugal or peripheral?

Regenerative designs are common across the range and are popular for compact, cost-effective boosting in typical shower situations, giving good pressure for a single or twin application. Centrifugal pumps are often chosen where higher flow is needed, such as whole-bath boosting or larger outlets, and peripheral types sit between in performance and cost. If you want a quiet, efficient boost for a single shower, a regenerative or peripheral model is a sensible starting point; choose centrifugal if you need higher flow for multiple outlets.

How do I decide between a single-impeller and a twin-impeller shower pump?

A twin-impeller pump boosts both hot and cold supplies, so it gives a stronger, balanced flow to mixer showers and thermostatic valves; many models in our range are twin for that reason. A single-impeller pump only boosts one feed (hot or cold) and is suitable if only one supply needs improving, an electric shower or a pipework layout where only the hot feed is weak. If you want an even, powerful mixer shower, a twin impeller is usually the safer choice.
