What basin type will work best in a small cloakroom versus a family bathroom?

For a cloakroom you'll want a compact wall‑hung or corner basin like the Ceramica Elba wall‑hung at 350 x 350mm or the Ceramica Veneto corner basin at 550 x 390mm save space and keep the floor clear. For a family bathroom choose a wider countertop, recessed or full pedestal basin, many countertop basins sit in the 480–620mm range and full pedestals around 550–560mm hide pipework and give a more substantial feel. Wall‑hung basins around 450–560mm work well when you want an open floor and easier cleaning.

How many tap holes do I need and how do I match them to my tap style?

If you plan to use a wall‑mounted tap buy a basin with zero tap holes; there are plenty with 0 in the range. A single tap hole is for a mixer or monobloc mixer tap, two holes suit traditional separate hot and cold pillar taps, and three holes are for a three‑hole widespread set. Check the basin listing; the Affine Amelie full pedestal is shown with one tap hole, while the Park Lane traditional wall‑hung cloakroom basin is available with two.

What basin width should I buy to fit a vanity unit?

Match the basin width to your vanity: if you have a 600mm vanity choose a 600mm recessed or semi‑recessed basin. For a slim vanity top 400–500mm countertop basins are common, many models sit between 460 x 325mm and 505 x 398mm. If you're fitting an 800mm vanity look at the larger recessed options such as the Ceramica curved resin recessed basin at 800mm.

Are black or coloured basins practical?

Coloured basins make a strong design statement but are a less common choice compared with traditional white basins. White gloss ceramic is the most versatile and easy to match to furniture and chrome taps, while a black basin can create drama when paired with matte black or brass fittings. Bear in mind coloured surfaces may show limescale or watermarks differently, so choose a finish you're happy to maintain.

What's the difference between ceramic and resin basins and which should you choose?

Ceramic basins are the traditional choice, which are often glossy, hard‑wearing and easy to clean. Resin basins, such as the Ceramica curved resin recessed options, allow seamless flowing shapes and larger spans for integrated vanities, and they are often lighter. If you want a classic, durable finish pick ceramic, or if you need a contemporary swept shape or an extra‑wide recessed unit, resin can be the better option.
