Countertop basins give you sculptural shapes and colours, ideal if you want a square, round or geometric sink sitting on a vanity; a 620 x 360mm countertop basin suits a wide vanity. Recessed basins, such as the 610 x 396 x 185mm option, sit into the worktop for a neater look and more splash control. Wall-hung basins like the 560 x 415mm size free up floor space and work well with concealed furniture, while full pedestals hide pipework and suit classic layouts such as the 550mm Amelie.

Should I choose ceramic or resin, and how will that affect look and care?

Both materials are available across the range and each has strengths. Ceramic gives a classic gloss finish that is hardwearing and easy to keep clean, so it works well for busy family bathrooms. Resin allows more unusual shapes and colours, so pick it if you want a matte or coloured option such as black or grey. Use gentle, non‑abrasive cleaners on resin to preserve the finish.

What width should I pick so the basin fits my space without feeling cramped?

Measure the available wall or vanity width and match it to the size bands shown, there are basins from 200–299mm up to 800–899mm. For a small cloakroom a compact 280 x 280mm Morlaix or a 360 x 360mm countertop works well, while a family bathroom benefits from a 500–620mm basin such as the 505 x 398mm oval or 620 x 360mm countertop. Leave at least 100mm of clearance on each side of the tap area for comfortable use.

Do I need a tap hole in the basin, or should I use wall or furniture-mounted taps?

Affine basins come with either no tap hole or one tap hole. If you plan to fit a deck-mounted mixer, choose a basin with one tap hole; many countertop basins are supplied without a tap hole because they are paired with a tall mixer on the vanity or a wall-mounted tap. The Amelie 550mm full pedestal is sold with one tap hole for a conventional deck tap.
