How do I pick the right shape and size so the new seat fits my toilet bowl?

First identify the bowl shape you have, round, oval or D-shape, since the range includes dedicated options for each shape (15 round, 7 oval, 7 D-shape). Then measure the hinge hole centres on your pan; many seats list minimum and maximum hole centre widths. If your hinge centres are about 140 mm, choose a seat rated for the 101-150 mm range to ensure correct alignment. If you're replacing an old seat, matching shape and the hinge centre measurement is usually enough to find a compatible model.

What's the difference between solid wood, moulded wood and vinyl-wrapped MDF seats, and which is best for my bathroom?

Solid wood seats (available in oak, walnut, teak and mahogany) feel warm and sturdy and suit traditional or natural schemes, but need careful drying to avoid moisture damage. Moulded wood offers a curved, resilient profile and good strength for regular use, found in many Croydex and Bemis options. Vinyl-wrapped MDF gives a smooth, high-gloss finish (useful for grey or black gloss seats) and is easy to match to contemporary ceramics, though it can chip if knocked. For a rustic bathroom pick oak or antique pine solid wood; for a modern gloss vanity choose a vinyl-wrapped grey or black seat.

Should I get a soft-close seat or one with quick-release, and can I have both?

Soft-close prevents slamming and is helpful if you have children or want a quieter bathroom; about half the range offers soft-close models. Quick-release lets you lift the seat off the pan for thorough cleaning and is available on many contemporary seats, such as the Croydex Ontario Flexi-Fix. You can have both features together, several products combine soft-close with quick-release, but those models tend to sit at a higher price point. If hygiene and quiet operation are priorities, look for a soft-close quick-release option.

How do hinge materials affect durability and the look of the seat?

Hinge materials in our range include chrome-plated, aluminium, stainless steel, plastic and zinc alloy, and they influence both longevity and style. Stainless steel and good-quality zinc alloy resist corrosion in a humid bathroom and are a smart choice if you want durability. Chrome-plated hinges give a bright, traditional look that matches classic taps but may show wear sooner than stainless steel, while plastic is lightweight and economical but less robust. Match chrome-plated hinges to chrome taps, or choose matt black or stainless hinges to echo contemporary fixtures.

How can I match a wooden toilet seat to my vanity, floor or tap finishes?

Match the wood tone of the seat to nearby timber, oak, walnut or antique pine seats work especially well with oak vanities or wood-effect floors to create a warm, cohesive look. For a contemporary bathroom, pick a matt or gloss coloured seat (matt black, matt white, grey gloss) to tie in with matt black or chrome tapware and minimalist ceramics. If you want contrast, a walnut seat against white sanitaryware adds warmth and character while a grey oak seat pairs neatly with concrete-effect tiles.
