Within our Toilets by Style collection are modern toilets with close coupled designs and furniture units with different stylish finishes. We also have traditional toilets for a more timeless look, corner toilets and short projection toilets for those who are short on space and comfort height toilets for those who lack in manoeuvrability. Here at Plumbworld, we pride ourselves on our extensive range of toilets, from close-coupled to back to wall and comfort height toilets we have you covered, whatever your design style. Choosing the right toilet for your home can be a long and drawn-out process so if you’re not entirely sure where to start, here is a good place!

To help break things up a little we know that there are 4 main types of toilet:

Close Coupled: This is where the cistern is located directly onto the back of the toilet pan, making it great for smaller bathrooms!

Back to Wall: The toilet pan is fitted to the wall or a piece of furniture and the cistern is concealed for a sleek and slimline finish.

Wall Hung: This toilet is similar to a back to wall, however, it is hung on a sturdy metal frame, allowing for the pan to be suspended above the floor. The cistern too is concealed within the wall.

Comfort Height Toilets: These are perfect for the elderly or those with mobility issues. These toilets are traditionally two inches taller than your standard toilet, it's specially designed to improve accessibility when getting on and off it.

A few things to consider…

Before you go about purchasing a new toilet there are a couple of elements you need to think about. The first thing to consider is what style are you going for in your bathroom? Are you planning on taking the more traditional route of bathroom design or are you simply pulled in by the enticing sleek lines of contemporary design?

The next thing is how much available space is you going to have in your bathroom. If your bathroom is on the smaller side then we advise that you choose from our extensive range of close-coupled and scape saving toilets (these toilets also look great in larger bathrooms too!)

Perhaps one of the most popular choices of toilet, close coupled toilets are attached to the toilet bowl, this creates a slimline unit conveniently combines both essential parts. All pipes are hidden within the toilet and their compact design means they’re perfect for fitting into small or awkward spaces. They’re also super quick and easy to install making them the ideal choice for any bathroom suite.

Comfort Height Toilets

Comfort Height Toilets are the perfect choice for the taller population, elderly or disabled. Whatever your needs are comfort height toilets are designed to give a little extra height for those that need it. They’re approximately 2 inches taller than the standard toilet. The extra height on these toilets will help to relieve the pressure of knees and joints to give users a much more comfortable seating position.

Another modern option is to install a back to wall toilet in your bathroom. Designed to make use of limited floor space, back to wall toilets create a fitted look due to the pipework and fittings concealed from view, giving your bathroom a clean and neat finish.

What is the difference between close coupled, back-to-wall and wall-hung toilets, and which one might suit your bathroom best?

Close coupled toilets have the cistern mounted directly on the pan for a compact, easy-to-fit layout and are common across the range, often with soft close seats. Back-to-wall toilets sit against the wall with the cistern hidden in a unit or wall, giving a neater look and examples here include back-to-wall models paired with concealed cisterns and 500mm furniture units. Wall-hung toilets free up floor space and make cleaning easier; you'll find wall-hung rimless options paired with Geberit concealed cisterns and a flush plate. If you want a traditional, straightforward installation choose close coupled; pick back-to-wall or wall-hung if you want a streamlined, furniture-style or modern look respectively.

How do I choose the right seat height for comfort and accessibility?

The range shows pan heights from about 284mm up to 520mm, with many standard pans around 400mm and specific comfort height models such as the Ceramica Arles Comfort Height and Affine Tivoli Comfort Height. If you have limited mobility or prefer an easier sit-to-stand, look for comfort-height pans (typically a bit higher than 400mm, often 430–460mm). For children or a lower profile, choose pans in the 320–355mm range. Measure your existing seat or try sitting at similar chair height to decide what feels most natural.

What are rimless toilets and are they worth buying?

Rimless toilets remove the traditional inner rim so water flows straight into the bowl; many products here are rimless, such as several Ceramica and Affine models. They are easier to clean because there's no hidden rim where dirt and bacteria collect, which helps hygiene in a busy family bathroom. You'll often find rimless versions offered with a soft close seat, giving both cleanliness and quieter use. If low-maintenance cleaning is important to you, a rimless model is a practical choice.

I have a small cloakroom, which toilet types save the most space?

Short projection toilets and corner toilets are designed for tight spaces; options include the Ceramica Compact Short Projection and Affine Brittany Short Projection models. Short projection pans reduce the depth the toilet takes from the wall, while corner toilets make use of underused corner space. 2-in-1 toilet-and-sink units and back-to-wall furniture units with a 500mm width, like the Artis and Regis 500mm units, also save space by combining fixtures and hiding the cistern. Measure the room depth and door swing, then match a short projection or compact furniture unit to those dimensions.

How do flush types differ and which is best for my bathroom style?

Push button flushes are the most common here and are typically used with concealed cisterns and flush plates for a modern look, as seen with Geberit wall-hung pairings. Lever and pull chain options are available if you prefer a traditional or period style. If you want a minimalist bathroom, a concealed cistern with a push-button plate gives the cleanest finish; choose a lever or pull chain if you're fitting a classic suite.
