Which shower head size should you choose, is a 200mm head big enough or should you go for 300mm for a true rain effect?

A 200–250mm head gives a generous rain-like coverage and suits most standard shower enclosures, giving a full, relaxing spray without overwhelming the space. If you want a more immersive, spa-like deluge and have a large enclosure or an open wet-room, a 300mm head delivers that dramatic effect. Bear in mind larger heads need good water flow to perform at their best, so pair a big head with a suitable shower type for your water system.

How do I know whether to buy an electric, mixer, digital or power rain shower for my boiler and water system?

Use the product-type definitions: an electric shower needs cold water only and heats on demand, so it works independently of your boiler; mixer, digital and smart showers need hot and cold feeds from your boiler or cylinder; and power showers include an integrated pump to boost pressure for weak systems. For a combi boiler or mains-pressure system, a mixer or digital rain shower gives excellent flow and precise control; if you have only cold mains or want independence from your boiler, choose an electric rain shower. If your hot water is gravity-fed and pressure is low, a power shower or a pumped digital unit is a practical choice.

Do I need a handset in addition to an overhead rain head, and can I run both at the same time?

Many rain-shower sets come with two outlets, an overhead rain head plus a handset, which gives you flexibility for rinsing, cleaning and variable spray patterns. Some systems let you run both outlets together, useful if you want extra flow for rinsing hair, while others operate them independently so you can save water by using just the handset. If simultaneous use matters to you, check the product specification for "2 outlets" and whether the model supports concurrent operation.

How do square and round rain heads differ in performance and style?

Square heads have a contemporary, architectural look that suits modern tiles and right-angled layouts, while round heads offer a softer, classic appearance that works well in transitional or traditional bathrooms. Performance differences are minimal if head diameters are the same; a 250mm square and a 250mm round will give similar coverage, but the spray pattern can vary slightly by manufacturer design. Choose the shape that complements your room's lines and the rest of your brassware, brands like hansgrohe, Aqualisa and Mira offer both shapes in several sizes.

Are digital or smart rain showers worth the extra cost compared with thermostatic or bar-mixer units?

Digital and smart showers give precise temperature and flow control and often add features such as presets and smartphone control, which is helpful if you want consistent, exact temperatures or multi-user profiles. They tend to sit at the higher price end, many smart/digital dual-head models in our range are in the the current product price range, whereas good thermostatic bar-mixers and exposed mixers can be found from under the current product price to mid-range prices. If you value convenience, remote control or integration with a smart home, a digital or smart model is a sensible investment; if you prefer simplicity and lower cost, a thermostatic dual-head mixer delivers reliable temperature safety and strong value.
