Will an exposed mixer shower work with my home's water system?

Check the product’s stated supply type: many exposed mixers are made for high-pressure/combi systems or are marked suitable for all systems, while only a few models are for low-pressure/gravity fed systems. If you have a modern combi boiler you’ll find dozens of compatible options; if your hot water comes from a gravity-fed cylinder, look specifically for LP/gravity models or ‘suitable for all’. When in doubt, pick a model that explicitly lists compatibility with your system to avoid performance problems.

Should I buy a thermostatic or a manual exposed mixer?

Thermostatic valves are the dominant choice here because they blend hot and cold to a set temperature and react to sudden pressure or temperature changes, keeping the shower steady and reducing scald risk. Manual mixers work and are usually cheaper, but they won’t hold a constant temperature if someone runs a tap elsewhere. For family bathrooms and homes with unpredictable water pressure, thermostatic is the safer, more comfortable option.

How do I decide between 1, 2 or 3 outlets and which head types to get?

Think about how you actually shower: single-outlet models give you a handset or fixed head and suit small en‑suites, two‑outlet options commonly pair a rainfall head with a handset for flexibility, and three‑outlet sets add body jets or a bath filler for a spa‑style setup. a family bathroom often benefits from a rainfall and handset combination so you can enjoy immersion and quick rinsing; a small cloakroom is fine with a handset-only option.

Which finish will suit my bathroom and how hard are different finishes to keep clean?

Chrome is the most common finish, bright and easy to maintain for a classic look; matt black is striking and contemporary but can show limescale on hard water unless wiped regularly. Brushed brass gives a traditional, tactile feel and tends to hide fingerprints and minor marks, making it good for period schemes. All the ranges are made from high-quality materials, so pick a finish that matches your aesthetic and your willingness to do a quick weekly wipe-down.

Are there safety or water-saving features I should look for?

Yes, many exposed mixers offer Cool Touch valves which keep the control surface cool and are helpful if you have children or vulnerable users, and a good number include Eco Shower features that reduce flow or use sensors to save water. Thermostatic and pressure-stabilised options also protect against sudden temperature spikes. If saving water matters to you, look for models with an eco mode; if safety is top priority, choose a Cool Touch thermostatic model.
