Return to page 1 of Wooden Bath Panels

‘Sustainable design’ is a trend that has been ruling the design world for a few years now, and it doesn’t seem to be budging. Natural materials such as wood add a touch of warmth into an otherwise contemporary room, whilst also inviting textural contrast that is sought after in many neutral bathroom designs. Unwind in a natural, calming environment by adding a touch of wood to your bathroom suite.

How do I pick the right panel size and type for my bath?

Measure the length and height of your bath recess and match them to the panel sizes shown — common lengths on the site are 1700mm and 1800mm, with end panels often 700mm–750mm. If you have a straight bath you'll need a side panel (length equals bath length) and possibly an end panel (width of the bath end). For shower-bath combos look for L-shaped panels listed specifically as L-shaped or shower bath packs, for example 1700/680mm packs. Always check whether you need a side-only, end-only or a side-and-end pack so the edges and profiles align.

What's the difference between MDF, MFC, LDF and wooden panels, and which should I choose?

MDF (medium-density fibreboard) gives a smooth surface ideal for painted or gloss finishes and is common in the Park Lane and Hudson Reed ranges; it looks neat but needs sealed edges to avoid moisture ingress. MFC (melamine-faced chipboard) has a factory-applied durable surface that resists scuffs and is easy to wipe clean, making it practical in busy bathrooms. LDF (light-density fibreboard) is lighter and often used for larger panels to reduce weight, while solid or veneered wooden panels give the warm natural grain shown in oak options but need proper sealing and care. If you want a low-maintenance finish go MFC or a gloss MDF; pick solid wood or oak veneer if you prioritise natural texture and are happy to maintain it.

Can I match a coloured or wood-effect bath panel to my existing bathroom furniture?

Yes — the range includes matt and gloss colours (black, blue, green, grey) and wood-effect finishes such as oak and grey wood, so you can coordinate with cabinets or tiles. For example, choose a Winchester matt green side and end pack to echo painted vanity units, or an oak wood panel to tie in with oak worktops. If you're matching existing pieces, pick the same material family where possible (MDF gloss with other gloss units; MFC wood-effect with MFC furniture) to get a consistent sheen and edge detail.

Do I need a full side-and-end panel pack or will a single end or side panel do?

Buy a pack when you're replacing both the long side and the short end or fitting a new suite so the profiles, colours and heights match — many packs are sold for common combinations like 1700/700mm or 1700/750mm. Choose a single end or side panel if only one piece is damaged or if your bath layout only exposes one edge. For example, if your 1700mm bath already has a serviceable side but the end is chipped, an end-only 700mm panel keeps costs down and ensures the rest of the finish remains unchanged.

How should I care for wooden or wood-effect bath panels to keep them looking good?

Wipe panels regularly with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners that can dull matt or gloss finishes. Make sure edges and any cut-outs remain sealed and promptly dry any standing water to prevent swelling in MDF or wood veneers. For solid wood or veneer oak panels, oil or re-seal periodically according to the manufacturer's guidance to protect the grain and finish.
