Bathroom suites can be quite tricky to design, especially if you’ve got a large family that likes to recharge and refresh in different ways. One way that you can cater for everyone is by using a bath, or in this case a wide bath. They’re available in so many different shapes and sizes you really can’t go wrong, for example, a Japanese bath or corner bath gives you ample soaking space but without a large footprint, a great addition on a bathroom limited on space. Alternatively, you could fit a single ended bath and a shower screen so not only do you have a bath tub but you’ve got a showering space too. For a really magnificent centrepiece you could use a freestanding tub with a freestanding mixer tap to go with it. How do I pick the best wide bath shape for my bathroom?

Think about the space you have and how you use the room. If floor area is limited, a corner or small freestanding corner bath (the Affine Montpellier 1510 x 905mm or the Sanctura 1270 x 580mm) gives deep soaking without a large footprint. For a family bathroom where you want both bathing and showering, an L‑ or P‑shaped shower bath gives a roomy shower area while keeping a full bath. If you want a showpiece and plenty of reclining room, a freestanding or double‑ended bath like the 1900 x 900mm options creates a centrepiece.

What sizes are common, and how does width affect comfort?

Lengths on offer typically range from about 1500mm up to 1900mm, with many models in the 1600–1700mm band; widths are commonly 800–899mm, with some at 900–999mm and a few wider options over 1000mm. A wider bath,900mm or more,gives noticeably more shoulder and elbow room, useful if you like to stretch out or share the bath; for two people consider the 1800 x 1200mm two‑person inset model. If your bathroom is tight, a longer but narrower bath (1800 x 800mm) can give length without using too much room across the floor.

Can you have a shower over a wide bath, and which bath shapes are best?

Yes, many wide baths are supplied as shower baths; L‑shaped and P‑shaped models are specifically designed for a showering area with a flat end for a shower screen. If you want both daily showers and a proper soak, a P‑shaped shower bath gives a larger showering zone while still keeping a generous bath.

Are whirlpool options available and what are the trade‑offs?

A majority of wide baths are available with a whirlpool option, and there are dedicated whirlpool models such as the Vitura L‑shape whirlpool with eight jets. Whirlpool baths offer a spa‑like massage and are ideal if you want enhanced relaxation, but they usually cost more than a standard bath and may be included in our range with longer lead times. If you want the hydrotherapy benefit, choose a model that specifies the jet finish and placement so you get the effect you prefer.

Do you need side panels or side and end panels, and which should you order?

If your bath sits in an alcove, you'll need a side panel for the long side; for corner installations you need a side and end panel set to cover both exposed sides. Many products state the panel option clearly, Ceramica L‑shaped baths are offered with Side & End Panel or Side Panel only. Check the bath shape and how it will sit in the room, and order the panel configuration that matches whether the short end of the bath will be exposed.
