How do I decide between a freestanding and a straight traditional bath?

Freestanding baths are the classic statement pieces with roll tops and decorative feet, ideal if you want the bath to be the room's focal point. Straight baths sit into an alcove and work better where space is tighter or you need wall-mounted taps. If you have a shower over the bath or require panels, a straight bath with a side panel is usually the practical choice; if you have an ensuite or a large family bathroom, a freestanding 1500–1700mm roll-top such as the Park Lane Buxton looks beautiful.

What size should I choose for comfort without overcrowding the bathroom?

Typical lengths in the range include 1500–1550mm for smaller to medium bathrooms, 1620–1700mm for a more comfortable adult soak, and 1800mm+ for spacious layouts; widths commonly sit between 690–755mm. a 1500 x 750mm Park Lane Oxford suits a medium family bathroom, while a 1700 x 700mm Hudson Reed Ascott gives extra legroom in a larger room. Measure the space with clearances for walking and door swing; allow at least 600mm of clearance on the accessible side for comfort.

Which bath material should I choose: acrylic, copper, mineral resin or solid surface?

Acrylic is the most common here and is lightweight, warm to the touch and cost-effective,good for most bathrooms. Copper offers a striking, artisan look and natural patina but is pricier and heavier, as seen in the BC Designs copper boat baths. Mineral resin and solid surface give a heavier, stone-like feel and excellent heat retention, ideal if you want a premium, tactile finish. If you want a budget-friendly traditional look, acrylic roll-top baths such as many Park Lane options are sensible; if you want a statement centrepiece, a copper or mineral resin model will deliver.

Do I need a panel for a traditional bath and which panel option suits my layout?

You need a side panel when the bath is installed in an alcove; there are 12 side-panel options included in our range and 12 side‑and‑end sets for corner installations. Freestanding baths typically require no panel because their plinths and feet are exposed. For a corner bath, choose a side & end panel to conceal pipework neatly; if you're fitting into the longest wall only, a single side panel will usually be enough.

What's the difference between single-ended, double-ended and slipper baths, and which will suit how you bathe?

Double-ended baths are symmetrical with two sloped ends so two people can sit comfortably, perfect for shared baths or a central placement. Single-ended baths have one sloped end for reclining and place the taps at the flat end, which saves space and works well against a wall. Slipper baths have a raised, contoured back for luxurious lounging; choose a slipper if you favour a deep, reclined soak in a freestanding position, a 1620 x 690mm Richmond slipper style for a relaxing focal piece.
