Tiles

There are some rooms in the house that just benefit more from being tiled, like the bathroom, kitchen or even hallways. Basically anywhere where mess is made or water dripped. A lot of our tiles have rectified edges which means each tile can be placed closer to the next, reducing the amount of grouting that needs to be done and the size of the grout line between the tiles. They’re also available in a huge array of finishes, so getting the perfect feature for your walls & floors can be easy. Samples of each tile are available, to find out how to order these simply check the description of the tiles you wish to order.

How do I choose between porcelain, ceramic and vinyl for a bathroom or kitchen?

Porcelain is the toughest option and is ideal for floors because many ranges are rated for wall and floor use and come in large sizes such as 600 x 600mm or 600 x 1200mm that reduce grout lines. Ceramic is great for walls and splashbacks, think metro tiles 100 x 200mm or bespoke 75 x 300mm colours, it's often glazed and easier to keep looking bright. Vinyl SPC and rigid vinyl planks (1210 x 220mm or 1210 x 190mm click planks) are fully water-resistant and warm underfoot, so they suit kitchens and wet-prone downstairs bathrooms. Match the material to the room's wear, moisture and the look you want: durable porcelain for heavy traffic, ceramic for decorative walls, vinyl for waterproof practicality.

What tile sizes and layouts make a small bathroom or narrow hallway feel bigger?

Larger-format tiles such as 300 x 600mm or 600 x 600mm cut down grout lines and visually open up tight spaces, especially when laid horizontally to widen a narrow room. Rectified-edge tiles let you lay tiles closer together, further reducing the grid effect so surfaces look sleeker. Alternatively, long plank vinyls like 1210 x 190mm mimic wood and draw the eye along the length of a hallway, making it feel longer. For a small shower wall, a vertical run of 300 x 600mm tiles can also heighten the space.

Are rectified-edge tiles worth the extra cost?

Yes, rectified edges produce a much neater finish because tiles sit closer together, meaning smaller grout joints and a more contemporary, seamless look. They work particularly well with large porcelain slabs such as 600 x 1200mm marble-effect tiles if you want a near-monolithic surface. The trade-off is that grout lines are more visible if tile faces vary slightly in level, so rectified tiles suit reasonably even substrates. If you want a clean, modern aesthetic with minimal grout, rectified tiles are a strong choice.

Which finishes and textures should I pick for safety on floors?

Choose textured or unglazed tiles for better grip in wet areas; our range lists a number of textured options and unglazed tiles specifically meant for floors. Polished or high-gloss porcelain (polished 600 x 600mm) looks striking but can be slipperier when wet, so reserve those for walls or low-moisture spaces. SPC and rigid vinyl floors also offer secure, non-slip surfaces while staying waterproof, so they're a practical choice for busy kitchens and family bathrooms. Match texture to the room's moisture and foot traffic: more texture where water and shoes are common.

I like a marble look and patterned tiles, can I use both without them clashing?

Absolutely, pair a large-format marble-effect porcelain tile as your field tile with a smaller patterned tile like the 250 x 250mm Seurat Grey as a focal strip or feature wall. Keep the colour palette aligned: use a patterned tile that shares a dominant tone with the marble base so the two read as a coordinated scheme. Varying scale helps too, big, calm marble surfaces let a small-scale patterned tile sing without overwhelming the room.
