Page 6 of 6 Stone Resin Shower Trays

Return to page 1 of Stone Resin Shower Trays

Stone resin shower trays are the only way to go for a permanent shower enclosure. They’re stronger than acrylic, and thanks to their stiffness they’re easier to install because twisting or bending isn’t possible. When installed flat to the floor the sound insulation is better than acrylic, and finally the lack of movement in the tray means a better, more secure water-tight seal around the edge of the tray and the edge of the waste.

How do I choose the best tray profile height for my bathroom?

Match the profile to how you want to enter the shower and where the waste sits. Low profile trays (around 25–30mm) give a near‑level, modern look and are ideal if you want minimal step into the shower, while wet‑room profiles are designed to sit flush with the tiles for a seamless floor. Deep profiles (typically 40mm and up, some as high as 90mm) give extra room for the waste trap and are useful if you need more fall or have pipework below the tray. Raised trays are used where you must route plumbing under the tray.

Will a stone resin tray really be better than an acrylic one?

Yes, stone resin is stiffer and far less likely to twist or flex, so you get a more secure, waterproof seal around the edge and waste than with acrylic. When laid flat to the floor it also gives better sound insulation, so your shower sounds quieter. The material is durable and typically available in a range of profiles and shapes, making it a long‑term choice for a permanent enclosure.

Which shape and size should I choose for a corner shower versus an alcove?

For a corner shower, quadrant or offset quadrant trays work well because they maximise usable space in tight corners; common corner sizes include 800x800 and 900x900. If you have an alcove, rectangular trays are the usual choice, popular sizes are 1200x800 or 1600x700 depending on the length of your alcove. For very small en suites, square 760x760 or 800x800 trays give a compact footprint while still fitting standard enclosures.

How do I decide between a centre waste and a corner waste position?

Let the existing plumbing and the shower enclosure layout guide you. If your soil/waste pipe is already central under the tray, a centre waste keeps installation simple; if the pipe runs toward a corner or you're fitting into a corner enclosure, a corner waste will align better. Also think about aesthetics and drainage centre wastes suit larger rectangular trays, while corner wastes suit compact or corner shapes.

Are non‑slip or "Safe" stone resin trays worth the extra cost?

If you worry about slips for family bathrooms, older users or where children bathe, a non‑slip or "Safe" finish is a practical upgrade; the range shows many "Safe" low profile options such as the Mira Flight Safe series. They add grip underfoot and give extra confidence without changing the tray's overall look, though they can be slightly more expensive than smooth finishes. For a ground‑floor ensuite with young children, a 1200x800 Safe low profile tray combines accessibility with improved safety.
