How do I work out the right width and depth for your new vanity unit?

Start by measuring the space you have along the wall and in front of it, common widths in the range are 400mm, 500mm, 600mm, 800mm and larger options up to about 1200mm, so you can match a unit to a cloakroom, ensuite or family bathroom. Depths typically sit between about 300–500mm; a shallower 300–350mm unit suits tight spaces, while 450–500mm gives you more basin and surface area. a 500mm unit is ideal for a cloakroom, a 600mm or 800mm works well in a standard family bathroom, and a 1200mm unit is great if you need double-basin space. Allow extra room for basin overhang and taps when measuring.

Will the vanity unit come with a basin or do you need to buy one separately?

Most models include a basin, on this range ship with a basin and some do not, so you can pick either a vanity that's ready fitted or a countertop vanity unit if you prefer to choose your own basin. Countertop options are plentiful if you want a separate basin for styling or to match existing taps. a Regis Forma countertop unit with a Roubaix white basin gives you a clean, coordinated look without hunting for separate pieces.

Should you choose a wall-hung or a floor-standing vanity unit?

Wall-hung units give a crisp, modern look, make cleaning the floor easier and can create the sense of more space, while floor-standing units feel more traditional and can sit more sturdily on uneven floors. If you want clear floor space in a small bathroom, a 600mm wall-hung unit is a smart choice; if you prefer extra stability and a classic appearance, a freestanding 800mm oak-effect unit will suit. Think about your bathroom layout and the visual effect you want as well as practical cleaning access.

Which finishes hold up best and will suit my bathroom style?

Gloss finishes such as white gloss, grey gloss and anthracite grey are popular because they're easy to wipe clean and give a contemporary, reflective look; wood finishes like oak and grey wood add warmth and texture for a softer, natural feel. If you have a humid family bathroom, gloss options are often simpler to maintain, whereas a lacquered wood-effect unit can give the cosier look without compromising durability. an anthracite grey gloss wall-hung unit gives a modern, low-maintenance finish, while an oak freestanding unit adds a spa-like warmth.

How much storage will you actually get, doors or drawers?

Storage styles vary across the range, you'll find units with doors, drawers or combinations, and all are designed to make use of the space under the basin for toiletries and linens. Drawers are usually better for organising smaller items like cosmetics and toothbrushes, while cupboards with doors work well for bulkier items such as toilet rolls or towels. an 800mm unit with double drawers gives tidy, divided storage for a family bathroom, whereas a 500mm unit with a single door is perfect for a compact cloakroom.
