You may think that rectangular baths all look pretty much the same but if you want your bathroom suite to look as luxurious as possible then double ended baths are a great choice. Instead of having the taps fitted at one end, double ended baths are fitted a long the edge to allow you to rest up against either end comfortably, or to share a bath with your partner. The waste and overflow are also situated in the middle of the bath too to ensure maximum comfort. Within our large collection of double ended baths, we have standard double ended baths and Whirlpool double ended baths which have massage jets built in for some gentle or powerful hydrotherapy.

What practical difference does a double ended bath make compared with a regular single-ended bath?

A double ended bath places the taps and the waste in the middle so you can lean back comfortably at either end or share the bath with a partner. That central tap position also gives a more symmetrical, luxurious look often seen in modern and traditional suites. If you like soaking or want the option to face each other, a double ended freestanding model such as the Sanctura Brockland (1600 x 750mm) makes that easy. Note that plumbing needs to be arranged to suit a centre waste and edge-mounted taps.

Which bath size should you choose for a smaller ensuite or a family bathroom?

For a compact ensuite, look at models from about 1500 x 725–750mm — for example the Sanctura Wandsworth at 1500 x 725mm fits tight spaces while still being double ended. If you have a standard family bathroom, the most common lengths are 1600–1700mm (over 100 listings in the 1601–1700mm band and many 1700 x 750mm options), which balance comfort and space. Measure the room and allow space for access and any panels or freestanding clearance before you decide.

Do I need a side or end panel, and how does that affect installation?

If your bath will sit in an alcove you'll need a side panel for the long side, while corner installations typically need both side and end panels; many of our products list these options. Freestanding baths usually require no panels at all, giving you a finished look all around. Panels also hide plumbing and provide a neat finish, so choose the panel configuration that matches your planned siting.

Which material is best — acrylic or Carronite — for everyday use?

Acrylic is the most common choice because it's lightweight, warm to the touch and easy to repair for scratches; it suits most bathrooms and budgets. Carronite is heavier and more rigid, offering excellent durability and a premium feel where you want a longer-lasting solid structure. If you want an affordable, easily maintained bath go with acrylic; for a sturdier, more substantial bath consider Carronite.

Are Whirlpool double ended baths worth the extra cost for hydrotherapy?

Whirlpool double ended baths include built-in massage jets for gentle to powerful hydrotherapy, which can ease muscle tension and enhance relaxation, making them a good choice if you'll use the bath regularly for soaking. They cost more and need access to electrical supply and slightly deeper installation planning than a plain acrylic bath. If you want regular therapeutic use, a whirlpool like those listed in the Whirlpool Bath category is a sensible investment; if you only soak occasionally, a standard double ended bath still gives the comfort and style without the extra complexity.
