What is the real difference between an acrylic Carron bath and one finished in Carronite, and which should you choose?

Acrylic is warm to the touch, durable and easy to clean, so it’s ideal if you want a comfortable everyday bath with low maintenance. Carronite is a reinforced finish that adds structural strength and better heat retention, so it keeps water warmer for longer and suits heavier use or a more indulgent soak. If you have a family bathroom with frequent use, Carronite gives extra longevity; for a guest ensuite or tighter budget, acrylic is perfectly capable and pleasant to the touch.

How do I decide on the right size and shape for my bathroom layout?

Many Carron baths on the site are 1700 x 700mm, a commonly used size that fits most family bathrooms while still offering a comfortable lie. Single-ended baths (most models here) suit installations where taps and shower are at one end, and save space for a shower screen; double-ended baths are symmetrical and better if you want a centred tap or want to lie back at either end. For a corner installation look for a side-and-end panel option; if your room is tight, a 1700 x 700 single-ended is a practical, standard choice.

Do I need side or end panels, and which panel option works for my installation?

If your bath sits in an alcove you’ll need a side panel for the longest side; corner baths require a side-and-end panel to cover both long and short sides. Some baths are listed with no panel option — these suit installations where the bath has a bespoke surround or will be fully tiled. For example, a 1700 x 700 bath in an alcove will usually pair with an acrylic or Carronite side panel to give a neat, finished look.

I see options like "no tap hole" and "twin grip" — how do these affect what I buy and install?

A "no tap hole" bath is supplied without pre-drilled holes, which is ideal if you plan wall-mounted or freestanding taps; tubs with tap holes suit deck-mounted mixers. "Twin grip" models include built-in grips or handholds that make stepping in and out easier and improve safety, useful if you have children or mobility concerns. Pick the tap-hole configuration that matches your intended taps, and opt for twin-grip if you want extra reassurance getting in and out.

Are whirlpool or spa-style Carron baths available, and what should you be aware of?

Yes — Carron offers whirlpool options alongside standard single- and double-ended baths for a more indulgent experience. A whirlpool will need slightly more planning: you’ll want access panels for service, a suitably sized bath (many models are 1700 x 700mm or similar), and space for the pump and pipework. If you want a relaxing, spa-like bath and have room for equipment and access, a Carron whirlpool is a good upgrade; for a simple soak, a standard Carronite or acrylic bath will keep things straightforward.
