Standard Shower Baths

Most shower baths have a larger bulge at one end in either a rounded "P shape" or a squared "L shape". However that design may not suit your bathroom shape or even your bathroom style, which is why we also supply standard shower baths. Instead of having a bulge these baths taper out from the bottom of the bath up until the tap or shower end, giving you plenty of space should you want a bath or a shower.

What makes a standard shower bath different from the common P-shape or L-shape shower baths, and when is it the smarter choice for your bathroom?

A standard shower bath tapers from the foot up to the tap or shower end rather than having the larger bulge you see on P or L shapes, so you still get a full bathing area plus enough room to stand under a shower. That tapered profile suits narrower or more traditional layouts where a bulge would look awkward or reduce usable floor space. If you want a simple, straight look and plan to fit a screen rather than a wide shower enclosure, a standard shower bath is often the better option. If regular, vigorous showering is your priority and you need extra elbow room, a P-shape gives a slightly larger showering area.

How do I decide between the common sizes 1600 mm and 1700 mm, and between 700 mm and 750 mm widths?

The range here centres on 1600 mm and 1700 mm lengths with widths of 700 mm or 750 mm; 1700 x 750 mm gives you the most comfort for showering and bathing, so it's ideal for family bathrooms. A 1600 x 700 mm bath is a good fit for an en-suite or compact bathroom where every centimetre matters. If you plan frequent showers, the extra 50 mm width of 750 mm can make standing and turning under the screen feel noticeably less cramped.

Which bath panel option do you need for an alcove or a corner installation?

For an alcove installation you'll need a side panel that covers the longest side of the bath, whereas a corner layout requires a side and end panel set to cover both the long and short sides. Some bundles already include front and end panels, so you can avoid buying panels separately. If your bath will be exposed on one or both ends because you're not housing it in an alcove, you may not need any panels at all.

Can you fit a shower screen to these baths, and which type might suit your layout best?

Yes,many of the baths are offered as bundles with shower screens, both curved and square styles, and even black-framed square screens for a contemporary look. A curved screen works well on shorter 1600 mm baths because it gives a little extra internal space and a smoother swing, while square screens sit neatly against straight-edged 1700 mm baths for a minimal, modern finish. Make sure you select a single-ended model if the screen is to go at one end, as the product products in our range label single-ended baths clearly.

How do straight, single-ended curved and freestanding options differ in use and appearance, and which brands or price points should you expect?

Straight baths provide a clean, linear look and are the most common here (15 straight baths included in our range), single-ended curved baths give a softer profile at the shower end for better splash control and style, and freestanding models offer a statement look but need floor space. Brands like Ceramica and Affine supply many budget-friendly bundles with screens and panels, while Hudson Reed's Eternalite range sits at a higher price point and a more premium finish. If you want value with everything included, a Ceramica bundle offers screen plus panels; choose Hudson Reed if you prefer a higher-spec aesthetic and material.
