What does a thermostatic mixer do and why might you want one in your bathroom?

A thermostatic mixer keeps water at a steady temperature by automatically blending hot and cold supplies, so you won't get sudden hot or cold bursts. That makes it ideal if you have children or if someone else might change the hot water elsewhere in the house. Many of the Hudson Reed models here are thermostatic and include an overhead drencher plus an adjustable handset, giving you a consistent, comfortable shower whether you want a rainfall experience or targeted rinsing.

How do I know which model will work with my water system?

Check the supply type included in our range for each model, some are marked HP/Combi for high-pressure combination boilers, one is marked LP/Gravity Fed for low-pressure tanks, and one is described as Suitable For All Systems. If you have a combi boiler, choose an HP/Combi model; if your home uses a cold water tank and hot cylinder, pick the LP/Gravity Fed option. If you're unsure, select a model labelled Suitable For All Systems to avoid compatibility worries.

What's the practical difference between a bar mixer and an exposed mixer?

A bar mixer usually mounts on a riser rail and often gives dual outlets (rainfall head and handset) with the pipework visible along the wall, while an exposed mixer also shows the pipework and controls but may have a more decorative, traditional look such as cross head handles and white ceramic details. The collection here includes five bar mixers and one exposed mixer, so if you want the classic traditional aesthetic with decorative handles choose the exposed option; if you prefer the practical two-head setup with an adjustable handset, a bar mixer is likely a better fit.

Do I need a dual-head (rainfall and handset) or will a single outlet do?

Dual-head showers give you a rainfall drencher for a spa-like wash and an adjustable handset for rinsing or cleaning, which is handy in family bathrooms or for washing children and pets. A single outlet works well in small en-suites or where you want a simpler installation and lower water use. if you value a luxurious showering experience in a main bathroom, a dual-head thermostatic bar mixer in brushed brass or chrome will deliver both functions.

Are these Hudson Reed mixers safe and water-efficient?

Thermostatic valves used across the range reduce scald risk by stabilising temperature, but most models here do not feature Cool Touch protection (No for Cool Touch), so choose a model specifically marked with Cool Touch if you need a valve that stays cool to the touch. some are Eco Showers, offering water-saving modes or sensors to reduce consumption, making them a better choice if you want lower water use without sacrificing performance.
