How do I know which shape and size of soft‑close seat will fit my toilet?

Measure the distance between the two fixing holes (hole centre) and the overall bowl shape. Seats come in D‑shape, oval, round and square and the filters show hole centre ranges such as 51–100 mm, 101–150 mm and 151–200 mm, so if your fixing centres are about 120 mm you would look at the 101–150 mm range. D‑shape seats are common for close‑coupled toilets, round seats suit compact pans and square seats match modern designer bowls. Which seat material should I choose for durability and style?

Urea and thermoset plastic seats are hardwearing, stain resistant and give a smooth gloss finish for easy cleaning, while moulded or solid wood seats add warmth and a traditional look but need gentler care. Vinyl wrapped MDF can look like wood but is less water resistant than urea, so avoid heavy damp environments. If you want long life in a busy family bathroom, a urea or high‑quality thermoset plastic seat is a practical choice; choose wood if appearance is your priority.
