How do I choose between porcelain and ceramic tiles for my bathroom?

Porcelain is denser and harder wearing, so it's the better choice for floors and wet areas, many porcelain tiles here are rated for wall and floor use and come in larger sizes such as 600 x 600mm or 600 x 1200mm. Ceramic is lighter and often used on walls, with classic small formats like metro 100 x 200mm or 75 x 300mm that suit splashbacks and shower walls. If you want one tile throughout for a seamless look, pick a porcelain tile marked for both wall and floor; if you prefer contrast, use ceramic on the walls and porcelain on the floor.

What tile sizes and shapes work best in a small bathroom?

Smaller formats such as 75 x 300mm or 100 x 200mm metro tiles keep scale in a compact bathroom and let you create vertical or subway patterns that add interest without overwhelming the space. Alternatively, using a larger porcelain slab like 600 x 600mm with minimal grout lines can visually open the room and feel more modern. Run 75 x 300mm white tiles vertically behind a basin to make the ceiling seem higher, or lay 600 x 600mm floor tiles across a small floor to reduce busy grout lines.

Which finish should I pick: gloss, matte, polished or textured?

Gloss and polished finishes reflect light and brighten a space, making them ideal for feature walls or marble-effect tiles such as the 600 x 1200mm polished options; they do show water spots more easily. Matte finishes hide marks better and give a contemporary, less slippery surface underfoot. Textured tiles add depth and grip, so choose textured or unglazed options for shower floors or anywhere you want extra slip resistance.

Can I use the same tile on both walls and floors for a cohesive look?

Yes, many tiles here are specified for wall and floor use so you can achieve a continuous look with one product. Examples on our website include the Ardsley light grey porcelain in 600 x 600mm and the Lamos cream porcelain available in 600 x 600mm and 600 x 300mm. Double-check the product's application before buying; wall-only tiles such as the Metro 100 x 200mm are not suitable for floors.

How do different styles like marble effect, metro or stone effect change the bathroom's mood?

Marble-effect tiles bring a luxurious, timeless feel and work well as large polished panels, for instance, a 600 x 1200mm marble-look tile makes a strong focal wall. Metro tiles in small formats (100 x 200mm or 75 x 300mm) deliver a classic, contemporary look that feels cosy and versatile in any colour. Stone-effect or textured tiles create a natural, earthy atmosphere and are great on floors or whole-room schemes for a spa-like finish.
