Electric Showers - Requires Cold Water Feed

Cold water supply only

Electric showers are by far the most convenient to install. They connect to a cold water supply only and not to your boiler, warming the water using an element inside the shower. So if you're worried about your brother, sister, partner or anybody else using all the hot water in the house then this electric shower is certainly for you. Because no matter how much you us it, it won't run out or let you down when it comes to heat.

We had our Aqualisa Quartz 10.5 installed in the summer of 2010. It looked good and all was well until it stopped working in 2013; just out of the two-year guarantee period. I phoned Aqualisa, explained the problem and they told me the 'engine' - the beating heart of the shower was broken. Being out of guarantee, it was going to cost me a couple of hundred pounds to get it replaced and fitted by their engineer, which I did. All was well until a year or two later when it stopped switching on. Again, I phoned the company and was told that this time it was the cover, PCB unit that had broken. Another £50-60 investment that I fitted myself. Slightly after this, the hose split and again, was replaced. Fast forward to September 2017 when the shower would not heat up. Again, I phoned the company and spoke to a lovely gentleman who, after I explained the problem, told me that once again the 'engine' had failed: I'd need a new one... again and that I'd have to part with another £200. At this point I should explain that the unit is used for about ten minutes daily and as the gentleman agreed, this was not excessive use. I was offered a small discount over the phone but turned it down. With such poor performance, I would have expected a replacement but then again... maybe not. In effect, I had had two complete showers that had lasted about 3 and a half years each. This is incredibly poor performance and because of that, I would not buy again.

We are on our 2nd installation of an Aqualisa shower and this one is slowly starting to fail. They are just not worth the hassle. They look good and for about 8-10 months they perform adequately but then the rot sets in and the temperature goes lower and lower until I have to turn the dial to ‘hot’ to get any kind of warmth. The company are unhelpful and just tell me “parts have worn out - you need to either replace the parts but it would be almost as cheap to buy another unit”. Great sales ploy!!! Except that when this shower fails I’ll not buy another!! Don’t waste your money like we’ve done - get anything but this brand... even a bucket with holes in will last longer.

The shower, despite the reviews and being advertised as safe, is at best temperamental but at worst dangerous. It throws out scolding hot water without warning and cold the next instant if anyone (or an appliance) starts or stops using the mains. It even refuses to heat the water when the mains pressure is low, a common occurrence where we live. Reading around, I have discovered that it's recommended mains pressure is 3bar, you rarely get this in the UK, but you might on the Continent - NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE AND PLUMBWORLD REFUSE TO TAKE IT BACK - despite the promises on the website. We are removing it since we cannot let the children use it.

My first one broke after a couple of years so i thought, hey that was just bad luck, lets buy another one since it will be easy to fix in the same hole in my bathroom wall. THEN THE NEW ONE BROKE AGAIN WITHIN A YEAR!!! By broken, i mean simply - it just will not turn on any more. Poorly made product. Aqualisa support is such a PITA to contact that i've given up wasting my time trying to get a warranty fix. DO NOT BUY

Quite possibly the worst shower I have purchased, unfortunately is was boxed for 10 months before installation due to other unforeseen circumstances. It has never worked properly, and was out of warranty when I complained about it. I was given the choice of purchasing a new shower or have an engineer turn out at a large cost for something that has never been fit for purpose. Stay well away. I'm going back to Mira.

Bought Quartz to replace my Mira sport I mistakenly believed the reviews and Hype - the new Quartz is 30% less power than the Mira sport(very poor flow) all the same water pressure and pipework. The Mira Sport is far superior - Plumbworld have washed their hands as they say I fitted it, but its not fit for purpose!! I have to stand right next to the hose to get any water flow, which is crazy!

This shower was in a little used bathroom for guests - I reckon it would have been used 20 times a year- I have had the shower for 4 years. Firstly the digital control panel expired and was replaced for about £70. Now the engine has expired and will cost approx £110 to replace this - NOT HAPPENING.. The robustness of the shower really is pathetic - I am going back to MIRA SPORT.

Pile of rubbish tempature control is hopeless if you turn up high enough to have a warm shower, the pressure drops and then it resets to a much lower temperature. Thankfully we only fitted as a back up and rarely use it but every time I do use I end up wanting to rip it out. It has too much technology and overides your settings all the time.

Pressure is very low, the lowest I have ever had from an electric shower !. It has been checked by an Aqualisa engineer who says there is nothing wrong . I am not sure where Which get their reviews lately . It takes ages to wash shampoo out of your hair.

I was very happy with it at first and even bought 2 more but 2 months after the guarantee expired it stopped heating the water New engine required which costs the same as a new shower !! Expect the other two are going the same way

Had to buy a new shower to replace the same one - first one lasted 2 years, the second one has lasted 3 years. Load of expensive rubbish. Update: 2019 - this new one lasted one year! 3 broken showers in 6 years!

bought this 4 years ago and very disappointed . temperature control awful often first scalding and then, with the slightest of touches, freezing cold. Have now replaced it. Rubbish. Don't buy it

I've had 2 of these and both have let me down and broken. For the price they should last longer than 2 years! load of rubbish!

If you are looking for a reliable daily shower unit then avoid. Moved into a new build 5 years ago which had this shower as standard. Was very happy with it initially, it had relatively good pressure (not great, but good) and liked the sleek look. The first shower broke after 3 years, 1 year outside the warranty period. Was not very impressed as I would have expected a more expensive unit like this to last much longer.Did a quick read around the internet and could not find any general trend of bad reviews around reliability so decided to give it another try and bought the same model (which came with another 2 year warranty). I also made sure at this point to fully understand how to keep the unit in top shape based on the manual (there was nothing new that I learned I must add). After a few months this replacement one developed a fault (the water pump died). Got it replaced under warranty by an Aqualisa engineer. I must add their service was good from this perspective. However now I am finding myself another year down the line with another broken unit. This time the heating element died. Since its still under warranty I will get another replacement, but once that goes I will go to another make and not look back! Considering that I had 3 died on me in 5 years, each with 3 different faults and I dont live in an area with water contaminated with bad limescale and that we only use this shower domestically I am amazed that there is not a wider awareness of the poor quality of this product. Hope that my review will help steer people away from this product for those who actually need an electric shower for daily use. For those who need one for a quest bathroom... you might be ok with this for a few years :)

I bought this originally and it sat in the box for 4 months while the bathroom was decorated, it then lasted just over two years from purchase until it failed in a dangerous way, it spat out boiling water and steam even on cold. Aqualisa replaced the engine (whole inside) under warranty and its just failed again in the same way 20 months later.

Had this shower for just over two and a half years and suddenly stopped working. Was reliable up to this point and used on a daily basis. I would have thought it would have lasted a lot longer, hence the 2 stars review. I will be looking for a more reliable make when replacing this.
