How do I tell whether I need an angled, straight or corner valve for my radiator?

Look at where your pipework meets the radiator. Angled valves suit side inlet radiators when the pipe comes up from the floor or for bottom inlets where pipework comes from the wall. Straight valves are used where pipework runs along the wall into the side, or where pipes come up from the floor into a bottom inlet. Corner valves are designed for pipework running along the wall into a side inlet or for bottom inlets with pipework along the wall.

Should I pick a thermostatic, manual or smart radiator valve for better control and lower bills?

Thermostatic valves automatically regulate room temperature and are the best balance of comfort and energy saving for most rooms. Manual valves are cheaper and fine if you only need on/off control or a single thermostat governs the whole house. Smart valves give the most precise control and remote scheduling, useful if you want zoning or integration with systems from brands such as Worcester Bosch, Hive or Netatmo.

What connection size do radiator valves normally come in and which one will fit your pipes?

The most common size on this range is 15mm, with many products in our range specifically as 15mm, so that's the likely match for standard central-heating pipework. Other sizes such as 8mm, 10mm, 1/2 inch and larger options appear but are less common. If your pipework is standard domestic central heating, a 15mm valve will usually be the right option.

How do I pick a valve finish and style that suits my bathroom or kitchen?

Match the valve finish to your radiator and fixtures: chrome gives a classic look, brushed brass or antique brass suits warm, traditional schemes, and anthracite or black suits modern, industrial bathrooms. There are also traditional cross-head and wooden-head designs for period radiators and contemporary styles for sleek towel rads; select a pack that pairs the valve and lockshield in the same finish for a neat result.

What is a lockshield and do valves come with one included?

A lockshield is the balancing valve on the return side of the radiator that helps set even heat distribution across your system. Many valve packs include a lockshield, our range shows a large selection where lockshields are included, while other products are sold without one. If you don't already have a lockshield matching the new valve, pick a pack that lists "Lockshield Included" to ensure compatibility and a tidy match.
