Angled Radiator Valves

Perfectly complement your new radiator with a set of angled radiator valves. If the pipework to your radiators is coming out of the wall (as opposed to directly up out of the floor) then these are the valves that you need. They take the horizontal pipework and provide a right angle change of direction to connect to the vertical inlet on the radiator.

How do I know if you need an angled radiator valve or a straight one?

If your pipework comes out of the wall horizontally and the radiator inlet is vertical, you need an angled valve to turn the pipework through 90 degrees and feed the radiator. Angled valves are specifically designed for that right-angle change of direction, so they sit neatly against the wall behind the radiator. If the pipe rises up through the floor directly beneath the radiator, a straight valve is the correct choice.

What valve size should you buy for your radiator pipes?

The most common size is 15mm, which appears across the majority of products listed, but 8mm, 10mm and a 1/2 inch option are also available. Measure the external diameter of your copper or plastic pipe and check the radiator inlet size; if both are 15mm then a 15mm angled valve will fit. If you have unusual or older pipework, bring the pipe to the shop or photograph it against a tape measure to confirm the exact size before ordering.

Should you choose a thermostatic or a manual angled valve?

Thermostatic valves are the most common option on our site and let you control the radiator temperature automatically, saving energy and giving room-by-room comfort. Manual valves are simpler and cheaper, useful where you don't need temperature control and are useful in a utility room or a cupboard. If you want precise regulation in living spaces and bedrooms, thermostatic is usually the better choice.

Do you need to buy a lockshield at the same time?

A lockshield is used to balance the radiator and is included with many packs. If you are renewing both valves it is tidier and easier to purchase a valve and lockshield pack so the finishes match and you have everything needed for balancing. If you already have a working lockshield on the return pipe, you can replace only the angled supply valve.

How do you pick a finish and style that will look right in your bathroom or kitchen?

Match the valve finish and style to your radiator and room fittings: chrome and white are popular for a clean modern look, matt black and anthracite suit designer radiators, while brushed brass, satin nickel or wooden and ornate heads suit traditional bathrooms. There are modern designer packs and traditional cross-head or wooden-head options, so for example a matt black designer radiator looks cohesive with a matt black thermostatic angled valve and lockshield. Choose the same finish and similar handle style to create a unified look.
