How do I decide between an electric plinth heater and a hydronic (central‑heating) plinth heater?

Electric units are the simplest option if you want a standalone heater that you can switch on without new pipework; examples in our range include Smith's SS2E and SS3E models. Hydronic models such as Smith's Space Saver range and Myson Kickspace connect to your central heating and are quieter and cheaper to run if your boiler is already serving the room. If you only need heat in one kitchen or utility and have no spare pipework, electric is usually the quicker, lower‑cost install. If you want integration with your boiler and consistent whole‑house control, choose hydronic.

What size of plinth heater will fit under my cabinets and still give useful heat?

Measure the kickspace height and width under your units and match those to the product ranges on offer; heights come in bands such as 51–75mm, 76–100mm and 101–125mm, while widths include common sizes around 450–499mm, 500–549mm, 550–599mm and 600–649mm. Depths also vary (roughly 249–355mm), so check that the unit won't hit plumbing or drawers. a standard 600mm base unit is well suited to a 600mm Kickspace model, while a shallow plinth under a sink may need a 76–100mm height unit.

How much heat do plinth heaters give and how many might I need for a typical kitchen?

Plinth heaters typically range from about 1.0kW up to around 3.0kW, with categories in our range such as 1–1.5kW, 1.6–2.0kW, 2.1–2.5kW and 2.6–3.0kW. A small galley kitchen or utility might be comfortable with a single 1.6–2.0kW unit if you have other heating nearby; larger open‑plan kitchens may need a higher‑output unit (2.6–3.0kW) or two lower‑output units spaced along the run. Use the square metre size and how well insulated the space is to guide you, and choose a model such as the Myson Kickspace 800 for higher output.

Can I change the grille finish to match my kitchen and are spare grilles available?

Yes, grilles are sold in a variety of finishes and spare grilles are included in our range separately so you can match or replace them later. Options shown include brushed stainless steel, black and white overlay grilles for Smith's and Myson ranges, plus specific decorative grilles like the Myson Kickspace brushed stainless grille. If you have stainless appliances choose a brushed steel grille, or pick a black overlay grille to blend with dark cabinetry.

What control options do plinth heaters offer and which is best for a kitchen?

Control options include manual dials, remote wireless controls and models with other control types; Consort's PHSL2 and PHSL3 are wireless controlled plinth heaters, while many Smith's and Myson units are offered with manual control. If you want simple, hands‑on operation a manual control is reliable and inexpensive. If you prefer zoned timing and temperature control in the kitchen, a wireless or remote‑controlled model will give you greater convenience.
