Outset Gas Fires

On a cool, crisp day, there’s nothing more luxurious than sitting back and enjoying a roaring fire. Although crackling flames and smoky scents might seem idyllic, particularly when it’s cold, they can be difficult to maintain. If you’re looking for an easy and cost-effective way of heating your home during the cooler months, but you don’t want the hassle of tending to an open fire, then an outset gas fire is the way to go. These convenient fires are designed to run on gas, relying on the natural circulation of air in your room. With handy manual controls to get your fire started, you won’t need to worry about trying to ignite a flame or foraging for kindling either!

Outset gas fires stand proud from the chimney breast on an external hearth. They are more classic looking gas fires and are perfect in period properties, adding a traditional touch to your home. Our range of outset gas fires are available in a selection of styles, sizes, and colours, ensuring you can find the perfect match for your décor. With a wood coloured brown for a soothing tone to a bold and popular black to give a truly timeless finish, our range of outset gas fires are ideal for any home.

Each of these outset gas fires has been carefully tested by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to ensure they meet the latest standards of safety, efficiency, and performance, so you can rest assured that when you purchase one of these gas fires, you’re buying a fire that is as safe to use as possible. Designed by the leading British manufacturer Flavel, one of the fastest growing domestic fire producers in the UK, these fires have been carefully created with you in mind, bringing style and functionality into your home.

Will an outset gas fire fit my fireplace opening and hearth projection?

Measure the overall width, height and depth of the fire you need and compare with the product dimensions included in our range, widths in the range include 440mm up to 800mm, heights from about 515mm to 708mm and depths from around 200mm to 324mm. Outset fires stand proud on an external hearth, so you must allow for the fire's depth projecting onto the hearth and ensure the hearth is deep enough. if your chimney breast is 800mm wide and your hearth can take a 255mm projection, choose a model with an 800mm overall width and a depth no greater than 255mm. If you're unsure, note the exact overall dimensions of the model you like and confirm they sit comfortably on your hearth before buying.

Which heat output is right for my room?

The range here covers roughly 3.1–6kW, so smaller rooms or bedrooms are well served by the 3.1–4kW models, medium living rooms by the 4.1–5kW options, and larger or less-insulated rooms by the 5.1–6kW fires. Think of lower outputs as providing gentle background warmth and higher outputs as providing stronger, quicker heat. a compact snug would be comfortable with a 3.8kW Firenza ODS, while an open-plan lounge may benefit from a 5–6kW model.

What's the difference between glass-fronted and open-fronted outset gas fires?

Glass-fronted models have a sealed glass panel that improves safety and efficiency and gives a cleaner appearance, while open-fronted fires show the flame more openly for a traditional look but usually give slightly less efficiency. You'll also find radiant versions included in our range, which deliver more direct heat from the fire face and suit rooms where you want immediate warmth. If you want a period look with visible flames, an open-fronted traditional finish might suit; if efficiency and a neater appearance matter more, pick a glass-fronted option.

Which control type should I choose, manual, electronic ignition or remote?

Manual controls are common across the range and are reliable and straightforward to operate, while electronic ignition models spark the fire without a pilot light for convenience and improved efficiency. Remote-control models give the greatest ease of use if you want to adjust the fire from across the room, but they are typically higher priced. Note also specialist safety options like the Firenza ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) if you need extra protection in a less-ventilated space.

How do finishes and fuel beds affect the look of the fire?

Finishes available include classic black, bronze, brown/wood tones (teak, mahogany), cream and oak, so pick black for a bold timeless feel or wood tones to warm a period interior; bronze and brass give a slightly dressier look. Fuel beds vary between ceramic, coal/other styles or none, and they change the visual warmth, ceramic logs or coal effects create a realistic, cosy flame scene while a bare fuel bed keeps things simpler and more minimal. a mahogany-outset with a ceramic log bed will lean very traditional and homely, whereas a black glass-fronted model with no fuel bed reads more modern and streamlined.
