How do I decide between a thermostatic radiator valve and a manual valve?

Thermostatic valves let you control room temperature automatically by sensing the air, so they are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms where you want consistent comfort and energy savings. Manual valves simply open or close the flow and work well for spare rooms, garages or where you only need on/off control. If you want to lower bills and avoid fiddling with a dial, thermostatic is usually the better choice; pick manual if you only need a simple switch. Many packs combine a thermostatic valve with a matching lockshield so you get both control and system balancing.

Which connection type should I choose: angled, straight or corner?

Match the valve shape to how your pipes enter the radiator: angled valves fit side-inlet radiators with pipework coming from below or bottom-inlet radiators with pipework in the wall; straight valves suit side-inlet radiators with pipework running along the wall or bottom-inlet radiators with pipework from the floor; corner valves are for side-inlet radiators fed from the wall or bottom-inlet radiators with pipes running along the wall. Most of the range is angled, so if your pipe comes up from the floor behind a panel you will probably need an angled 15mm valve. Measure the pipe entry and note whether it comes from the wall or floor before ordering.

What connection size do I need — 8mm, 10mm or 15mm?

Check the outside diameter of your central-heating pipe or the size stamped on your existing valve: the range here offers 8mm, 10mm and 15mm connections, with 15mm being the most common for domestic radiators. Smaller towel rails or compact bathroom radiators sometimes use 8mm or 10mm pipes. a standard house radiator will usually take a 15mm angled thermostatic valve, whereas a slim heated towel rail may need a 10mm valve pack.

Do valve packs include a lockshield, and do you need one?

Some packs include a lockshield while others supply only the control valve. A lockshield is important for balancing the system because it controls the return flow and helps every radiator heat evenly. If you buy a single thermostatic valve, you should also get a matching lockshield pack so you can set and lock the flow on the other side of the radiator. Packs that include both give a neat, matched finish and save you from hunting down separate parts.

Which style and finish should I choose to suit a bathroom or kitchen?

Most of the range is modern and many items are offered in white, so they blend discreetly with white radiators and towel rails commonly found in bathrooms and kitchens. If you have a classic column radiator, the two traditional-style valves will match its period look better. For a contemporary white towel rail, an angled white thermostatic Valencia pack gives both a tidy appearance and practical temperature control.
