Selecting The Right Amount Of Bowls

When redesigning your kitchen and buying a new sink you may not have considered exactly how many bowls you’ll need but it is a pretty important decision to make.

If space is at a premium then ideally you should be looking at a single bowl sink. They’re smaller overall but tend to have larger bowls to make up for this. They aren’t great for multi-tasking but with the addition of a washing up bowl you can certainly get thing done more easily.

1.5 Bowl or 2.0 bowl sinks on the other hand excel at multi-tasking but you’re going to need a fair amount of space to get one fitted. The main advantage to an undermount sink is the lack of draining board but remember you’re still going to need space to let all those dishes dry thoroughly!

Getting A Kitchen Tap To Match & Fit

How do I choose the right bowl configuration and size for your kitchen?

Look at how you use the sink: single bowls suit compact kitchens or if you mostly rinse and prep, while double bowls or 1.5 bowls make washing and food prep at the same time much easier. Sizes on offer vary widely, you'll find sinks in length bands from about 400–499mm up to 700–799mm, and depths from roughly 100–199mm to 200–299mm, so larger pans and cookware benefit from deeper, wider bowls. a 750mm rectangular double bowl is ideal if you regularly soak pots, whereas a square single bowl works well in smaller galley kitchens. Also think about drainer options: most undermounts come without a drainer, though a few have left or right drainer variants if you want one.

Which finish should you choose, stainless steel, dark grey, black or gold?

Stainless steel (silver) is the most common and gives a classic, reflective look that pairs with most worktops; it's durable and suits busy kitchens. Dark grey or black undermounts offer a contemporary, low-contrast look that hides minor marks and works well with dark quartz or granite. A gold finish, like the Reginox Miami gold square sink, is a striking statement and tends to sit at the premium end of the range. Match the finish to your worktop and tap finish for a cohesive look, a dark grey sink with a matt black tap on a concrete-style counter.

Are rectangular or square bowls better for cleaning and everyday use?

Rectangular bowls (the majority in the selection) tend to give you more usable space and make it easier to fit baking trays and large pots, so they're very practical if you cook often. Square bowls create a modern, architectural look and can sit neatly under minimalist taps, but they may show water pooling more readily in very sharp corners. Many sinks are offered with either rounded or square edges; rounded edges clean a little more easily because there are no tight corners to trap grime. If easy maintenance is a priority, opt for a rectangular bowl with gently rounded internal corners.

Do any undermount sinks come with integrated waste or waste fittings included?

Yes, several models list "integral waste" or "with waste" in their descriptions, the Reginox New York and a number of Reginox Comfort and Ohio models. That means the waste fitting is matched to the bowl and often simplifies matching finishes and clearance beneath the sink. If you want a waste disposal or a tidy, built-in waste solution, look specifically for items described as "integrated" or "with waste". Note that sinks without an included waste give you more freedom to specify a particular waste or disposal later.

How much will a stainless steel undermount sink cost and what affects the price?

Prices in the range start from around the current product price and go up to about the current product price, with common mid-range examples like the current product price and premium pieces reaching the current product price+. Factors that push the price up are brand, bowl configuration (double bowls and 1.5 bowls cost more than single bowls), special finishes such as gold, and added features like integrated waste or 3-Way Fit models. A simple single, silver stainless steel square sink is one of the most economical choices, whereas a large double bowl in a special finish with integrated fittings is towards the top end.
