How does pyrolytic cleaning work and will it damage my oven?

Pyrolytic cleaning heats the oven to around 500°C so food residue and grease are reduced to fine ash that you simply wipe away, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals. The process is designed for the oven cavity and seals that are specified for pyrolysis, so normal use won't damage the appliance. Because the cleaning is infrequent, it's a low-maintenance way to keep the oven pristine between regular cooking. For heavy burnt-on spills you may still need a quick wipe afterwards, but there's no scrubbing of racks or enamel.

What's the difference between pyrolytic and pyrolytic with hydrolytic ovens?

Pure pyrolytic ovens use very high heat to incinerate residues into ash, while pyrolytic with hydrolytic models add a low-temperature steam option for gentler, quicker cleaning of light spills. Hydrolytic steam is useful after everyday splashes or when you want a short, low-energy clean; save the full pyrolytic cycle for baked-on grease. in our range you'll find both types, about 20 pyrolytic-only models and eight that combine pyrolysis and hydrolytic cleaning.

Which oven capacity and type should I choose for my household?

Most single ovens here are around 71 litres, which suits a typical family and handles a standard roasting tray plus multiple dishes; 67–70 litres are fine for couples or smaller kitchens, while 73–78 litres give you extra room for larger joints or big batch baking. If you often need microwave speed or limited space, four combination microwave ovens are available; choose a double oven only if you regularly cook different dishes at once, noting there's one double pyrolytic included in our range. Match capacity to the trays you use: a 71-litre oven will comfortably take a 1 kg loaf and a 1.5–2 kg roast together.

Will a pyrolytic oven be expensive to run because of the high cleaning temperature?

Although pyrolytic cycles reach very high temperatures, you run them infrequently, and many models here carry good energy ratings such as Class A+ or A++, which helps keep everyday running costs low. You can further reduce energy use by using the hydrolytic steam option for light cleans where available. If energy bills are a priority, look for the A++ or A+ rated models in our range in our range.

Which extra features are most useful and which brands offer them?

Useful features include soft-close doors for quiet, safe use, touchscreen controls and smart cooking functions for precise results, and added steam for better baking and moist roasting; slide-and-hide doors are handy if you need unobstructed access to trays. Neff is known for slide-and-hide models, Bosch offers several models with added steam, and you'll also find options from Hoover, Hotpoint and Indesit. Pick features that match how you cook: smart programmes for busy cooks, steam if you bake bread or fish often, and slide-and-hide if you need full oven access.
