How do I decide between a built-in microwave and a freestanding one for my kitchen?

If you want a seamless, integrated look that sits within 600mm-wide cabinetry, a built-in model is best — many listed microwaves have widths of 594–596mm to fit standard units. Freestanding microwaves give you flexibility to move them and tend to be simpler to place on a worktop. Also check depth and cavity size: built-ins often sit flush but still need sufficient recess depth, while a freestanding Prima or Bosch model can sit anywhere with enough bench space. If you're remodelling for a uniform finish, go built-in; if you rent or rearrange frequently, a freestanding is more practical.

What microwave power and cavity capacity should I get for a small household versus a family?

For one or two people, a compact 17–21 litre cavity with 700–800W (for example, the Prima PRCM112 or PRCM202) is usually enough for reheating and simple meals. For a family or if you want to cook larger dishes, aim for 25–44 litres and 900–1000W — those give faster, more even heating and room for casserole dishes or pizzas. If you regularly reheat large plates, look for models with a 315–360mm turntable or a flat interior to fit bigger items.

Do I need a combination microwave, or will a microwave with grill do?
