The main trade‑off is drying capacity: many washer‑dryers list two capacities (8/5kg or 7/4kg), meaning you can wash a full load but only dry a smaller portion in one cycle. If you live alone or have tight space, they're very handy; for regular large loads or bulky items, separate washer and tumble dryer pairs work better.

Condenser dryers collect moisture into a tank and are straightforward and usually cheaper to buy. Heat pump condenser dryers reuse warm air and run at lower temperatures, so they're much more energy efficient and gentler on clothes but tend to cost more up front. If you want lower running costs and better fabric care, a heat pump dryer is the wiser long‑term choice; if price is the main concern, a condenser dryer will still do the job.

Higher spin speeds extract more water from the drum, so a 1400rpm or 1600rpm machine will shorten tumble drying time and reduce energy use. Lower spins such as 1200rpm are kinder to delicate garments but leave more moisture, so you'll spend longer drying. For towels, bedding or heavy cotton aim for 1400–1600rpm; for silks and wool, use a gentler programme with a lower spin.

For singles or couples a 7kg machine often suffices, and you'll find many 7kg options in our range; an average family of three to four will be comfortable with 8kg. If you have a large family, frequently wash duvets or want to reduce cycles, look at 9–11kg models such as the Samsung 11kg included in our range. Also match dryer capacity to your washing habits: many tumble dryers mirror washing capacity, but washer‑dryers commonly show smaller dryer capacities (7/4kg or 8/5kg), so check both figures if you plan to dry full loads.
