How do finishes affect cleaning and the look of the kitchen?

Most induction hobs here are black or black glass, which gives a contemporary, seamless look and is very easy to wipe clean thanks to the flat surface. Black glass shows smears and watermarks more readily than matt finishes, so you’ll probably wipe it daily after cooking to keep it looking pristine. If you want a mixed look, there are a few black/stainless trims, but black glass remains the simplest for routine cleaning and a modern aesthetic.

How do I pick the right hob width and number of cooking zones for my kitchen?

Look at the space and how you cook: 60cm hobs are the most common and usually offer four cooking zones, ideal if you have a standard kitchen or cook for two to four people. If you often use large pans or cook for a family, an 80cm or 90cm model or a five-zone hob gives you more flexibility and room to manoeuvre. For very small kitchens you can also find 52–56cm options, while slim 77–78cm models suit narrow worktops but still provide extra zone options.

What’s the advantage of a venting induction hob and when should you choose one?

A venting induction hob integrates an extractor into the hob so steam and smells are removed at source, which is excellent for open-plan kitchens or where a conventional hood won’t fit. Brands like Neff, Bosch and Hotpoint offer venting models, though they sit at the premium end of the market and cost more than standard hobs. You gain cleaner sightlines and targeted extraction, but you’ll need to consider filter maintenance and the higher initial price.

Which control type is most practical for everyday cooking and family use?

Touch slider controls are very common and let you adjust power quickly and precisely, which is handy for simmering and quick temperature changes. If you prefer tactile feedback, twist pads or magnetic knobs give a physical feel and can be easier to operate with wet hands; many hobs also include a child lock and residual heat indicators for safety. Look for the control style you find easiest to use at mealtimes, since the layout affects speed and comfort while you cook.

Will my existing pans work on an induction hob, and what if I have odd-shaped cookware?

Your pans must have a magnetic base to work on induction, so stainless steel and cast iron usually work well whereas aluminium and copper need an induction-ready base. Many modern hobs include flex or bridge zones that let you use odd-shaped or griddle pans by combining zones into one large cooking area. A quick test at home is to hold a magnet to the base of the pan; if it sticks, the pan will work.
