What cavity size and wattage should you choose for your household needs?

For one or two people, a 17–21L cavity with 700–800W (for example Prima mini models) is economical and space-saving; families who cook larger dishes should look at 25L+ cavities and 900–1000W for quicker, even cooking. If you want to bake or roast, favour bigger cavities and higher wattage to avoid crowding and uneven results.

What's the difference between a plain microwave, a microwave & grill, and a combination microwave, and which is best for you?––

A plain microwave reheats and defrosts quickly, while a microwave & grill adds a high-heat element for browning and toasting, useful for cheese toppings and crisping. A combination microwave adds convection heat as well, so you can roast or bake as you would in a small oven; models such as the Bosch Series 4 CMA583MS0B or Electrolux EVLDE46X show how you can get true oven-style cooking at the same installation size. Are built-in microwaves with no turntable better for rectangular dishes and general practicality?

Some built-in microwaves are listed with “N/A” for turntable diameter, which usually means a flatbed design that gives you a full, usable cavity without a rotating plate. Flatbeds make it easier to fit square baking dishes and plates without the wobble of a turntable, and they’re easier to keep clean. If you often warm up casserole dishes or want consistent grilling across a tray, a flatbed or larger turntable (e.g. 315–360mm) is a practical choice.

Which finish and style should you choose to blend with your kitchen and make cleaning easier?
