Which material is best for your kitchen, fireclay or stainless steel?

Fireclay gives you a bright white, classic look and suits farmhouse or traditional kitchens, the Belfast and the Cleaner's ranges are fireclay. It’s hard-wearing and very resistant to stains and heat, but is heavier and can chip if struck hard. Stainless steel is silver, modern and described as easy to clean and scratch-resistant, so it’s excellent for busy households. If you want a professional, low-maintenance sink go stainless; if you want a timeless, ceramic finish for a country-style kitchen choose fireclay.

Do any Armitage Shanks sinks here include a tap, or are they sold separately?

Two of the products in our range are sink-and-mixer tap packs and three are sink-only, so you'll find both options. the Sandringham stainless-steel packs (S4112MY and S4113MY) include a tap, whereas the Belfast fireclay and some Cleaner's ceramic sinks are described as sink-only. If you want a ready-to-fit package pick a pack; if you prefer to match a specific tap later, choose a sink-only model.

How do you choose between a single bowl and a 1.5 bowl sink?

The range is mostly single bowls with one 1.5 bowl option, so single bowls are the common choice for washing larger pots and for a clean, simple look. A 1.5 bowl gives you a large main bowl plus a smaller prep or draining bowl, which is handy for rinsing veg while using the main bowl for pans. If you often soak big pans, a deep single bowl is more practical; if you like separate prep space without taking too much worktop, the 1.5 bowl is useful.

Should you choose a sink with a drainer, and which side should it be?

Two sinks offer a left-or-right drainer option and three have no drainer, so you can pick based on how you use your counter space. A drainer is handy if you hand-wash often and need somewhere to air-dry dishes; choose the side that sits naturally next to your draining area or dishwasher. If you prefer a seamless worktop or you use a dishwasher most of the time, a drainerless sink, like many of the fireclay Belfast-style units, keeps the look cleaner.

What’s the difference between Belfast, inset and wall-mounted sinks in this range?

The Belfast is a deep, freestanding-style fireclay sink with a traditional farmhouse character and a large single bowl. Inset sinks sit into the worktop for a neat, integrated look and are offered in both stainless steel and ceramic finishes. Wall-mounted options give you that exposed-faced, country feel and can free up cupboard space beneath, so pick the style that matches your kitchen’s look and how you want the sink to present visually.
