Fit a deep ceramic bowl into a small run of units with the Abode Sandon Inset Undermount Single Bowl Fireclay Ceramic Kitchen Sink 460 x 460mm. It is fireclay, fired at high temperature and glazed gloss white, with the rim, the bowl and the base moulded as one piece.
Fix it below the worktop for a clean edge, or set it into the worktop and let the rim sit on the surface. Both fits use the same sink, and the waste, overflow and pipework are supplied with it.
Fireclay Ceramic
Fireclay is clay fired at a high temperature until the body is dense and hard, then finished with a glaze. Abode hand finish each sink, so small variations in size and finish are normal on a sink of this kind. They show as the odd millimetre in a dimension, or a slight difference in the way the glaze sits.
Compact Footprint
The bowl is square and takes nearly the full depth of the sink, so you get a usable bowl in a kitchen that has no room for a wider one. It measures 400 x 400mm across and 195mm deep. A 600mm cabinet is the smallest it will go into.
12mm Wall Thickness
The ceramic body is 12mm thick through the bowl wall. That thickness is what makes the sink as heavy as it is, and it is worth allowing for when you plan the cabinet underneath. The same wall carries the glaze, inside the bowl and over the top edge.
Gloss White Glaze
The glaze is fired onto the fireclay at high temperature, giving a hard, dense surface that wipes clean and keeps its shine. Gloss reflects more light than a matt finish, so the inside of the bowl stays bright. It is the same glaze on the bowl, the rim and the visible edges.
Undermount or Inset
Undermount Kitchen Sinks sit below the worktop, so the worktop edge is what you see and the ceramic rim is hidden. Set it into the worktop instead and the rim sits on the surface. Abode publish a different cut-out for each fit, so the choice is made before the worktop is cut.
Flush Overflow
The overflow is a rectangular slot in the bowl wall with a cover plate that finishes level with the glaze. There is no raised fitting to clean around, and nothing stands proud of the bowl wall to catch a cloth.
No Tap Hole
The sink is supplied without a tap hole, so the tap goes in the worktop behind the bowl or on the wall above it. That leaves the style, the height and the reach of the tap up to you. Work the tap position out alongside the sink, so the spout reaches into the bowl and the controls are easy to get at.
Looking After Fireclay
Fireclay Kitchen Sinks do not suit an instant hot water tap. Abode ask that water is not released straight onto the glaze at full temperature. Keep that in mind when you choose the tap that goes over it.
