Best Showers for a Small Bathroom

Just because you have a small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the type of shower you desire. If you want a luxurious shower experience, then this is possible no matter the size of your bathroom or ensuite.

When planning a small bathroom renovation, the first thing to do is to measure the room to find out how much space you have to play with. These measurements will help you decide whether you want a small shower bath or a separate shower enclosure or whether a wet room-style shower is your best option.

Small shower bath

If you have come to the conclusion a small shower bath is your best option, perhaps because you can’t fit in both a bath and a separate shower enclosure, then there are plenty of ways you can still create a luxurious shower experience.

With a large range of shower baths available, from the classic straight bath to P shaped or L-shaped options, which provide slightly more width space at one end of the bath, you’re guaranteed to find the best option for your needs.

If you’re looking for a bath with plenty of width at the end at which your shower will be positioned, then P or L-shaped baths are both superb options. Both, feature one end of the bath slightly wider than the other in a square orcurved shape. This helps to provide plenty of space to enjoy a relaxing shower without bashing into your shower screen or feeling claustrophobic.

Not only do shower baths come in a range of styles but they’re also available in a variety of sizes, allowing you to choose the perfect fit for your bathroom. If you have a particularly small bathroom or even an ensuite then a 1500mm bath is probably the best choice. Giving you the ability to shower or bathe in comfort whilst taking up less space than a standard bath.

Corner shower enclosure

Corner shower enclosures are perfect for smaller bathrooms with less floor space. They most commonly come in the form of a square or quadrant enclosure. Now, whether you choose a square or quadrant enclosure will depend not only, on the space available, but also on how you want your enclosure to look. Keep reading to find out more.

Quadrant shower enclosure

A quadrant shower enclosure has the potential to provide just as much usable showering space as a square enclosure, however, due to their curved design they can take up slightly less floor space.

Square shower enclosure

However, a square enclosure can provide a greater space to enter your enclosure, depending on the type of door fitted. Due to their minimalistic straight lines and angles a square shower enclosure also provides a wonderful contemporary look and feel.

Shower door

When choosing a shower enclosure, shower doors are one of the best ways to conserve space. Sliding doors tend to be the best option for a space-saving solution however, there are plenty of other options that might be a better suit for your space. Keep reading to find out more.

If you choose an enclosure with a pivot door you need to consider how far the door opens, ensuring you don’t have any items such as vanity units or toilets in the way, which can prevent the door from opening fully.

If your shower enclosure doors are an area where you need to conserve space, then a sliding door enclosure might be your best option, taking up no additional usable floor space than your enclosure already does. Depending on the enclosure you buy, a sliding door can slide from left to right, right to left, or in both directions. This helps to provide plenty of space for entering your enclosure, without taking up any extra space in your bathroom.

Bath screen or shower curtain?

The size of your bathroom shouldn’t make much of a difference in whether a bath screen or shower curtain is a more suitable option for you. However, depending on the shape and layout of your bathroom, a shower curtain might help in saving space or making your bathroom feel larger.

Most shower screens, however, are only fixed in one place (almost like the hinges on a door) allowing you to push it in, towards the other side of your bath, giving your bathroom a more spacious feel.

Walk-in shower enclosure

Without the bulkiness of a full enclosure or doors to take up extra space, a walk-in shower enclosure can be a wonderful option for small bathrooms, especially if your wet room screen has a clear glass effect, allowing light to bounce around the room.

Slimline shower trays

The last thing you want in a small shower room or bathroom is a bulky shower tray. That’s where slimline or low profile shower trays come into their own, providing a modern and minimalist feel, they are thinner than a standard tray and can be installed in line with your existing flooring.

Small shower kit

If the performance of your shower isn’t your main priority, then a small shower kit might just do the job. Generally, a shower kit comes complete with a shower handset, a hose, and a riser rail, however, some are available with a fixed shower head as well. If a shower handset is all you need, you’re likely to save a lot of wall space where a fixed head may go, helping to provide the feeling of additional space.

Concealed valve

Concealed shower valves, as it says in their name, conceal any pipework behind your tiles. They are wonderful choices for both small bathrooms and ensuites as well as minimalist bathrooms, due to the lack of visible wall space they require.

Fixed shower head

If you’re looking for a luxurious shower experience in a bathroom with minimal space, you may be surprised to find you don’t have to compromise on the type of shower head you want. A fixed shower head can be installed either from the wall or ceiling depending on the type you choose.

A ceiling-fixed head is a wonderful choice if you want to keep the usage of wall space to a minimum or you don’t want your head to protrude too far from the wall.

The only thing you need to consider with a fixed shower head is the power of the spray and how far the head protrudes from the wall. The last thing you want is to install a large luxurious shower head, just to find it sprays half your bathroom and not just you!
