The fact is that many of us see the bathroom as more than simply a place to get clean. It is the one room in the house where you can be alone, lock the door and get away from the distractions which exist elsewhere. Unless your bathroom is very luxurious, you are unlikely to have a television, computer or even your mobile phone in your bathroom. You can just relax and ignore the rest of the world.
However, you are unlikely to enjoy your time in the bathroom if it is untidy, not clean or in need of a good spruce-up. You do not necessarily need to spend lots of money on your bathroom to create a spa-like atmosphere. A few well chosen accessories are all that is needed. Although, if you want to make long term improvements, there are plenty of bath, sink and toilet arrangements which will make your bathroom a more relaxing and beautiful environment.
Bathroom storage is probably the most important part of creating a relaxing space. A well chosen bathroom vanity unit will hold a multitude of sins. You will be able to hide away all those bottles and cosmetics which can easily clutter up even the largest bathroom.
Wall cabinets can double as mirrors and even well placed shelving can display attractive products or rolled up towels and face cloths.
A bathroom can also have fitted furniture in the same way as a kitchen. This can mean that you are making the most of the space available and hiding away the plumbing behind the toilet and sink. The result will be clean lines and plenty of work surfaces for display and functionality.
Clearly you need a good large bath if you want to have a proper soak. The most attractive would be the traditional roll top bath as these are often deeper than the average and are very comfortable to lie in for extended periods.
If your bathroom is smaller, you may need to settle for a smaller bath and make the most of bathroom accessories to improve your spa experience.
Having matching items in your bathroom is a must if you want a cohesive look. It is easy to find attractive glass, metal or even plastic containers which can store your bathroom necessities.
To these you should add a good bath mat to prevent slipping in your bath and a bath pillow, so you don’t end your long soak with neck ache. These pillows are easily cleanable and attach to the bath with suckers. They are the perfect compliment to bubble bath and a good book.
These deserve a category of their own. We all know that a good fluffy towel is one of the things we look forward to when staying in a hotel or going to a spa. You can choose any colour, but they should all match. White will go perfectly with any décor.
Your towels need to be as fluffy as possible. This is achieved by washing them with only a small amount of water softener. Believe it or not, too much will lead to your towels becoming shiny and hard to use. You should always finish the drying process in the tumble dryer and wash your towels separately to maintain the colour.
Roll or fold your towels and have them on display in your bathroom. Have a range of sizes including bath sheets and hand towels. Always have plenty of towels so that you will always have a nice clean and dry one to use. Warm them on a towel radiators before you use them.
So there you have it. Now all you need is a blockbuster of a book, a face mask and plenty of time on your hands. Get in the bath and relax for as long as you need to. Just try to ignore the cries of the kids and the telephone ringing – if you can!
