What is a Chase Wedge?

'Chasing' means the process of cutting into brickwork or plaster to create indentations. A chase wedge is a type of hand tool that is used in the shaping process of soft and malleable metals; including lead and copper sheets. You can use the wedge alongside other tools to help form desired shapes from the lead or sheet metal, which is also known as bossing. Arranging (dressing) a sheet metal into position is another purpose for it. They are particularly useful for replacing lead sheeting around the base of chimneys, where the edge of the chase wedge can carry out the dressing around angles and intersections.
