We’ve been all about covering the world’s public toilets here on the Plumbworld Blog lately, so why not talk about even more? For some reason people tend to be fascinated at how public toilets around the world look, after-all these are places we often have no choice but to use when we’re out and about and we’ve all no doubt come across some absolute howlers in our time. If anything will make you hold that pee until you get home though it’s the following toilets, as some of them are downright disgusting!
The Daily Mail seems to have the most disgusting selection of the lot, with plenty of New York City based graffiti tainted bathrooms that would no doubt make you feel like you’ve caught some sort of exotic disease simply by walking through the door. To attribute the source properly though the photos come from the Toilets of New York Tumblr blog, run by a guy whose sole mission is to document the public toilets around the Big Apple.
Ian MacAllen, the bloke behind the blog, told the NY Daily News the following:
“There are all these bathrooms around New York that have been decorated to create an experience that is more than just going to the bathroom,” he says. “Sometimes that’s a pleasant experience and sometimes it’s not. Either way, don’t you want to know what you’re getting into?”
I suppose this is a fair point, but I’m a bit curious as to whether or not there’s actually a market for people who want to check out what a places toilets look like before they go. If they’re not up your street, would that effect your decision? I’d certainly be worried about going into the toilet pictured on the right, but the place it’s in might be very nice apart from the toilets (although I’m betting it’s not exactly The Ritz). You could say that a unique toilet, even one splashed with graffiti, gives a place its own unique charm and I suppose you’d be right – but that doesn’t mean that I’d want to sit on the toilet in there!
It’s not the first time someone has done this; although this blog was last updated in March 2010 the owner clearly also had a fascination with checking out NYC’s various public bathrooms, rating them out of 5 flushes! Moving out of New York City another Tumblr Blog, Bathrooms of UCSD, is dedicated to photographing the many bathrooms of the University of California, San Diego. From what I’ve seen so far this is a place of a seemingly endless supply of bathrooms.
At the end of the day the interior design of bathrooms remains an interesting topic to many people. It’s a room that is so adaptable when it comes to variety design that it’s fascinating to see the styles that people and cultures around the world project on a place where we go to simply do our business or wash. Still, you’ve got to wonder what possess somebody to be passionate enough to want to go around photographing various toilets, but with the wide variety of subjects available across the Internet I think we’ve all come to terms with the fact that any subject you can think of no doubt has at least some passionate fans. We say long may it continue!
If you’re after a bathroom that’s actually going to look the part and become somewhere you can relax then checking out our great deals should be your first port of call.
